The "cinematic" intro had a point in half life: set the context and create a sense of suspense. The game is not at fault for being so influential it made every other developer implement it wrong just to keep the trend. The actual tutorial of half life is completely separate to the campaign and optional anyway.

I liked how III retained some of the arcadeyness of GTA and GTA2. I was kinda disappointed to find out VC removed getting money for blowing up shit and SA made Rampages multiplayer only for some fucking reason.

what half-life did is literally opposite of cinematic: instead of constant cutscenes with directed camera angles, ie. what you would see in a movie, you instead always retain first person perspective and control of the player (even if you get restricted to an area during some sequence). it was the least cinematic and instead most immersive action fps at the time.

This is a trillion times more insufferable than unskipable cutscenes. I'll add that love Half Life 2 as well but that interactive cutscene shit is a pure cancer on videogames.
