I can empathize with you.They do have an answer to "why," though; SQUARE had a fire that burnt files and equipment at their office and they literally lost the "original" files for the majority of these backgrounds. Some 3rd party artists do have a few of their own images, which they drew, saved elsewhere, but if it was at SQUARE in that fire, it's gone.I'll claim that "Moguri Mod" upscaling did fantastic work with FF9, though. A similar job for FF8 would easily get my approval.

Yeah, probably that or VII. Purely subjective, they're really janky games. And it's not nostalgia because I had gone through nes, snes, and n64 and didn't pay a FF til '01, I have more nostalgia for many games, alttp and oot for examples. I just really enjoy the PSX FF games, I play them each once a year, yet still love them.It's gaming comfort food.
