A collector bought a proto version of Punch Out in an auction for $45,000 and allowed the video game history foundation to dump the ROM. It turned out to be identical to retail except for a couple of bytes. No refunds I guess.
>>12499635Could have been a millionaire/billionaire that bought it, 45k investment not so bad
>>12499643"Investment"
>>12499693Do you think its worthless? Is Superman #1 comic worthless because it has been scanned?
OP is most likely the collector thread spammer who's been making the same threads for a week in a vain attempt to discredit the original collector thread OP that he attempted to shit up. The prototype in particular isn't drastically different from the final, but the differences found so far are pretty significant from a development standpoint (most notably Pizza Pasta and Piston Hurricane were meant to be in the game alongside a couple of unknown names). It's incredibly telling that this thread is in bad faith considering this is a best case scenario for a prototype cart auction.
>>1249974745 grand for Piston Honda with a different color palette and some unused character names in the code. Money well spent LOL. At least it didn't cost the preservation groups anything.
>>12499747What do you expect from the abusive asshole jannies who run this website since the least few years?
>>12499635>Too stupid to use "catalog"
>duplicate image of another thread>PNG>full of artifacts

>>12499635So Summoning Salt removed the video, it had a lot of differences like unfinished move sets and placeholder fighters that just cycled animations. Not really much unseen content which is the most exciting part of protos.>>124998812 guys bidding over a game because they think the other guy is going to hoard it. Its only valuable to about 50 people, you would think collectors would come to an agreement so prices don't go insane.
>>12499970He removed it because the proto is fake. Obvious sniff test could tell you this. Check the videogamesage forums. He also wiped all of his tweets even talking about the proto. You don't also delete your tweets if you think it's a nothingburger. Frank Cipaldi just hitched his wagon to an obviously bullshit bootleg and he's trying to memory hole this.
>>12499970>>12499983I saw that he had a new video and I was actually waiting to watch it and now you're telling me it's gone? Is there anyone that saved it somewhere? Also how do you know this prototype was a scam? That sucks and I hope the person that bought it can get their money back.
gay videogame drama on the internet in 2026, who knew it would come to this
>>12499708Yes. Unironically. I may not be able to hold it in my hands, but I can see the entirety of the contents for free. It's worth nothing when anyone can check it out for free.
>>12499996>Also how do you know this prototype was a scam?Printed label, (IMO this is the biggest indicator, why would this ever have a printed label, even if it was intended as black box, why would they comm different art for a proto that still is full of placeholder shit?)Text not matching up with known proto screenshots further along in dev (the fonts, along with different heart values, though this COULD be chalked up to how it was captured, and debugging for the different health amount, but IMO the differences especially in the 0's make it clear.) Cifaldi himself states that it is engineered unlike any prototype he's ever seen chip wise in the video he has up. He couldn't even declaratively say it was real leading up to it.
>>12500015nah they ain’t how it works, chief. that’s your personal bullshit standard, not the real world. you’re mildly retarded to even bring that horseshit
I wonder how many other idiots bought WATA graded slab scams thinking they were getting an interesting beta that's actually just a review copy identical to the final release.
>>12500015I guess the Mona Lisa is worthless too, since it is easily viewed online.
>>12499970>>12499983>So Summoning Salt removed the videowhat video? he streamed playing it last night and seemed convinced it was real. the vod is still up.
>>12500395there was a 14 minute video where he just goes over whats in the prototype. not sure why it was removed, maybe some wrong/incomplete info
>>12500026A few things.A game can change something, then revert it to a previous state. Just like how something might work in one build, break in a later one, then be fixed for the final. As for the bizarre PCB, the board itself would have been a prototype. Punch Out uses a unique mapper that was used by no other game, so they were probably in the process of prototyping the PCB itself. As for the apparent usage of mask ROMs as opposed to EPROMs, who knows. There'a a good chance there were once several more copies of this, and they were either destroyed, lost, or just haven't turned up with.As for the label, it's just a mockup, either to make it more presentable for whomever they were demonstrating it to, for marketing photos, for experimentation, or because some intern wanted to show initiative and decided to print out their current label mockups and slap them on their prototypes.
>>12500402Someone falsely DMCAd it. Probably whatever sore loser didn't win the auction.
I have a thousand times more respect for onlyfans paypigs than coomlectors.
>>12499635>allowed the video game history foundation to dump the ROMDid they actually end up sharing it? They have a track record for flat-out lying over this.
>>12502093They probably just edited the No-Intro ROM in HxD. They are not trustworthy.
lol I saw your post before you deleted it, fucking retard.
>>12502091Yeshttps://tcrf.net/Proto:Mike_Tyson%27s_Punch-Out!!
It would be too fucking stupid for this to be fake.
