what's the single BEST jap exclusive we never got an official release for? For me its picrel. an enormous upgrade over the NES original in every aspect, some of the best music and graphics on the SNES, a jrpg thats just as good as FFVI/CT/EB and for me still the best DQ game there is (and yes it is better than GBC and hd2dslop). Ive heard theres a ton of japanese rom hacks of this that are fun but we have none and none of them are translated and it makes me salty as hell. But Im interested to hear what you anons think.

Eh if you played the GBC version you're not missing much but some prettier graphics.

I would go with Mother because it's the first single game to come to my mind, if you go with a whole franchise though I would say SRW or Medabots though.
>>
Not counting download shop versions, i would say Sin&Punishment. Mother 1/3 are also good candidates. Golden Axe 3 seemed like something the west should have gotten. Pulseman, the rest of the Shining Force 3 campaigns, NamcoXCapcom, Live A Live.
>>
The SNES version of DQ3 ruins the gameplay balance in so many ways it renders some mechanics useless.

For instance the item bag renders the use of a healer before Darma temple null.
But the most egrogious change are the weapons like the boomerang and the flail that attack entire group of enemies or even the entire field with physical which completely lessens the point of offensive spells; basically turning the game into press X to win.

in b4 >hurr durr who gives a shit nobody plays JRPGs for the gameplay or difficulty
One of the greatest strength of the DQ series was precisely how tight balance was and how engaging combat was, and you might have realized this if you didn't play shitty ports

I personally think DQ3 is better than this game but I disagree with a remake being better than Tengai Makyou 2 Manji Maru.
>>

Having to kill 6 shitty ass weak goblins one by one with just 4 party members was the worsy part of ff1, no thanks I don't want battles that should last 1 turn last 2, literally adds nothing to the game but waste time.

You will never gonna be using boomerangs and whips against enemies matching your level in DQ3 remakes though, because there are stronger single target weapons.

MUCH prettier graphics, animated enemy sprites, and vastly improved music which are all very important in a turn based rpg. but yeah from a gameplay perspective the gbc is slightly better since it has medals and the shitty extra post post game dungeon but its not worth the sacrifice.

what the hell is SRW
>>
>>12499930
youre not wrong about any of that but adding a very useful thief class, beefing up the boss fights, pachisi tracks, a post game, personalities, and all the new equipment are all really solid additions that NES doesnt have. And its not like the magic classes are useless either, you still need a real healer to get through the second half, wizards are still powerful, sage is still the strongest.

GBC has animated monsters as well, the graphics are pretty good for a gbc title too. If I only have one chance to bring 1 Japanese exclusive to get an official american release during it's respective generation I don't see much reason to go with this one.

This game is severely underrated. One of Nintendo's best on the SNES.

Every single person I've ever seen praise a square enix game has been severely mentally retarded. It's been years of you people making the shittiest threads imaginable.

Wasn't GA3 on Sega Channel? Still a shitty way to give the game, but at least it was kinda released.

Front Mission : Gun Hazard

> FM spin-off
> same devs from Cybernator
> pretty good gameplay, story and graphics
> kino music produced by Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu and Junya Nakano

Golden Axe 3 not getting a cartridge release here was an absolutely retarded decision. It would have sold well. Not having Gilius as a playable character in it was also retarded.

The JP-exclusive PS1 port of Wizardry 4 and 5 is incredibly good. Both games originally used the original Wizardry game engine from the early 1980's, with CGA enemies and a wireframe world, despite being late 80's and early 90's games. The PS1 port gives the games a variety of tilesets for the walls, floor, and ceiling of the levels, giving both games a long-overdue upgrade. The enemy graphics have also been redrawn and look VERY nice. It's clear they really wanted to do the best job possible with these ports. Wizardry 4 + 5 also has an additional Arranged mode for Wizardry 4 that makes many changes to the game. You have bigger lists of monsters to summon from, but you can only summon 1 each of them. You gain the ability to direct them one at a time in battle though, more like a standard RPG.
The only 'downside' if you're a purist is you can see yourself spinning when you step on a spinner tile, so you can actually know what direction you're facing if you pay attention. This makes the infamous spinner room in the Cosmic Cube in Wizardry 4 MUCH easier. I think it's more fair this way, but some people like smacking their balls with a hammer.

I fucking hate the class system

I'm either too autistic or not autistic enough for this shit. I don't want to do a 20 question quiz and 3 hours of research before I dive into a game.

Mother 3.

That's not the class system, that's literally just the personality system and it barely matters

Had Namco bothered to bring it to the west, this would have butt raped Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV/VI and might've been the one fucking SNES JRPG everyone jerked over since the 00s' Nostalgia Boom

Damn, no wonder why it's so good.

To think that the only versions of Phantasia that left Japan are the GBA and that garbage iOS port with microtransations lmao
