What do you guys think about 14-inch CRTs? Are they enough for retro gaming? For example, are they good enough for playing PS2 or PS1 games, considering possible issues with legibility and really small UI elements? I’m planning to use one on my main desk, and I’d be sitting about 1 meter away from it. If that’s not enough, what size do you think would be ideal for that distance? Thanks a lot!

It's fine for a desk for anything 5th gen and earlier, might be a bit too small for PS2, 20 would be nicer to have screenwise but would take up too much desk space so 14 is a good balance

Bigger is really obviously better. 20" at a minimum. I'd only settle for 13/14" if I had no way to bring in a bigger set. CRTs that small are crap for light guns.
>>
>>12500373
A bit small. CRTs are pretty much a meme, I think. Even PS1 stuff looks just fine on my LCD in 4:3, plus since it's slender, it makes room for my laptop on the desk

>might be a bit too small for PS2
Every store demo of a PS2 game I remember back in the day used a 13 or 14 inch TV. Doesn't seem like anyone saw it as an issue.

I played through the entirety of Final Fantasy VII on a 14" CRT, hooked up via RF and with mono sound as a kid. It didn't affect my enjoyment of the game one bit.

You sure that's 14-inch? How about you put your cock right next to it just so we can compare sizes? Haha.

It's okay if you're sitting that close. By all means get something bigger if you have the space, though.
>>
they're nice if you have a cozy space where you can sit somewhat close. i have three 14" CRTs that i use semi-regularly and i quite enjoy them
>>
>>12500373
i had a 13 for a few years, it looked great and is fine especially if you're sitting up close or if cost/space is an issue.
if you plan to ever use it while sitting further away, could be worth going ahead and getting a larger one if you know you'll use it a lot. but it all depends on your cost/space preferences too.

i used mine on a desk and it was also fine for PS2,text were still readable sitting at similar distance to a computer desk maybe a bit more distance, unreadable text and too small UI only became a problem when using HD consoles on a CRT,PS3 games were unreadable even on my 32 inch CRT i used before getting an HDTV.

I play video games at my desk and my 13" CRT is the perfect size. It's an Orion shitbox and I wish I had a better one, but that has nothing to do with the size.

Just fucking no.
17 is minimum.

21 is the sweet spot if you are not into powerlifting.

27~29 if you can handle or have someone to help you out with such monstrosity.
>>
24-27 is perfect. Easily moveable by the average man (probably not a redditor though).

Get your eyes checked anon.

I once carried a big widescreen crt tv through narrow hallways and stairs. Not only are they heavy, they're also just difficult to handle. Better get a pal to help ya out.

Totally worth it though

I have that TV, but it's the white one, the FS-110.
It's great if you have the deskspace for it.

Pic related were the flashest desktop TVs you could buy back in the day so if I was in the market I'd probably try to find one. 10".

Small bedroom CRTs are the best for /vr/. It's what I played on the most back in the day.
>>
>>12500373
14" is on the smaller side but very usable if its what you have or can fit. I have a 14" security monitor that runs great as long as you aren't sitting too far away. Had great luck with arcade games and old Nintendo stuff. Not /vr/ but also played through GTA IV on it without any problems, but wouldn't want to be sitting too far away from it
>>

They are just too small.

14'' is perfectly fine for 240p and 480i content. You might need to sit a bit closer than a bigger TV, but you're willing to do that so go for it.
>>
>>12501014
anon a 27 inch CRT is like 150 pounds at most. A 12 year old boy should be able to lift that much.
>>
>>12500373
I think that 14 inch tv has the same footprint of a 19 inch tv and is therefore stupid
>>
>>12502440
lol no, it’s not the weight anyway
It’s the distribution and awkwardness to carry
But as long as it’s not a flatscreen, most adults should be able to carry up to 30 inches
>>
>>12501159
just embarrassing
>>
>>12500373
Do yourself a favor and aim at least for 20" or 21"

It's pretty sexy. Show it from behind. 30 dollars max.

>Totally worth it though
If it was worth it then the industry wouldn't have switched to flat screens instead of 300 pound radiation cannons.
