What do you guys think about those Sega Neptune builds that have been becoming so popular? Despite needing the actual 32x and mega drive motherboards, the fact this scrapped concept that Sega realistically should of made instead of selling the 32x by itself standalone is quite cool. Would of been better if Sega had re-released games to make use of the 32x hardware.
Mutilation of out of production consoles. Disgusting.
>>12501373It's not like most people actually care if the 32x specifically is mutiliated, everyone agrees it should had been released as the Neptune.
>>12501373>>12501381I agree with this the only thing I hate is the bastatdization of dreamcasts into handhelds that shit sucks but I kinda do approve of this desu.
>>12501386I don't mind if a console is turned into a handheld unless the handheld looks like complete dogshit, then it just hurts my soul.
>>12501373fpbp. This is cultural vandalism.>>12501381>>12501386>>12501390You should be hanged for crimes against humanity
>>12501364>should of >would of
>>12501395>hurr durr spelling mistakekys grammar nazi
I once turned a Nomad into a non-handheld Master System. AMA.
>>12501364> should of made instead of selling the 32xThe only reason the 32x was designed the way it was it because it was an addon. There is no universe in which there is only a stand-alone Neptune. A stand-alone successor for the genesis would absolultly not be anything like a genesis and 32x stuffed inside the same box. Instead some more coherent singular machine would have been made rather than two things grafted together.
>>12501446what is your most painful memory from childhood?
>>12501364I think tearing apart consoles is kinda lame, but it's their console to do what they want with and I have to admit they do look cool.
>>12501504I feel like these builds are what's driving up the prices for the 32x, and the fact a lot of inexperienced people end up breaking chips trying to solder this beast together.
>>12501364now this...THIS would have saved Sega
The fact they tear apart actual consoles for this in 2026 is retarded. Just use an FPGA for fuck sake.
>>12501364>>12501381>everyone agrees it should had been released as the Neptune.Pretty much everyone but you thinks the 32X was a retarded idea, and the Neptune is no better an idea. Late 1994 was not the time to make this weak, cartridge using console no matter how low a price. The idea of wasting dev resources on this trash when actual next gen consoles like the the Playstation were coming on the market soon was doubly dumb. This is a Jaguar tier idea.
>>12501364They look cool and if they had scrapped the 32x addon and the Saturn console, releasing only the Neptune console as their 5th generation contender, SEGA would've survived.
>>12503151No they wouldn't, it wouldn't be competitive against the PSX or N64. Their best bet would have been to skip the 32X entirely and went all in on the Saturn.
The 32x sucked because the Saturn was released at the same time. If there was 32x/Saturn cross compatibility, or if there was no Saturn, the 32x would've done far better. But the entire reason they made the 32x was because the Genesis was still strong, so the best choice would've been a Genesis Adapter for the Saturn.>>12503151huh, the red accents make it look so much better.
>>12503160>so the best choice would've been a Genesis Adapter for the Saturn. The Saturn having so much of the Genesis hardware already in it, Sega being one of the first companies to embrace backwards compatibility prior to the Saturn, and the system conspicuously having a cartridge port for saving (and later RAM expansion) does make me think it was planned for Genesis support at one time. I guess having a Genesis VDP would've been just one chip too many.
>>1250136432X is dogshit and shouldn't have happened. The Saturn should have just had a peripheral that played Genesis/Mega CD games and done.
>>12503341If Saturn was compatible with Genesis games, how would SoA have moved all the unsold Genesis consoles clogging warehouses?
>>12501364What do you guys think about those Sega Neptune builds that have been becoming so popular?I think all Youtubers should be systematically gassed, shortly followed by all their subscribers.
>>12503391no green arrow or something
>>12503384Take Atari's principal and dump them in the desert.
>>12503187> The Saturn having so much of the Genesis hardware already in itWhere are you getting this idea? It has none of the Genesis hardware.
>>12504090of course it does, how else did they release virtua racing for genesis
>>12501364Retarded. Want to do something cool? Come up with a modern power supply that's a single plug and cable with 3 leads so you can plug in your console, cd and 32x with less of a headache. It's as stupid as people destroying super gameboys to make consolized versions of pokemon. At least people like pokemon, no one likes the 32x. Destroy a genesis so you can more easily play 60 more games? Get some graphic upgrades in a few others? Limit yourself from playing cd or cd+32x games? It's dumb. It just seems like a lot of work and waste to get an even inferior product.
>>12501364How cool would it be if they made an FPGA or SOC Neptune? I would buy one right now. Why can't Sega themselves just release it? They have no other consoles they are selling to compete with. Along with a re-release compilation cartridges of 32X and Genesis games? Literally why not?
>>12506229>anal log didn't include this feature in their genesis knockoffLmao, I can understand not adding cd support because that would require effort, knowledge and cut into profits of a cheap to produce console but come on, that wouldn't have been hard.
>>12506229what's even the point of FPGA. they are just overrated ports of emulators. no fpga core is an actual implementation of console hardware.they are the same bs as emulators for DOS
>>12507319FPGA is more accurate than original hardware.
>>12507336this is just buzzwords people spread to keep retards buying it. none of the fpga cores actually is coded to run the exact same chips console have. there's no full documentation of many of them and that's why many new releases for old consoles fail to run on fpga cores while real hardware works just fine. also accuracy driven emulators work even better. because at this point they are used as literal devkits.
>>12501373Agree, but at one point 32X units could be gotten for free. I have about 10 of them, plus model 2 genesis systems, a dude couldn't even give away at an early 2000s game con i went to until he told me to take the whole box at the end of the show. I think this is a fine DIY if you are not retarded and have access to already mangled units. I restore screen battered psps and DS lites into video out systems.
>>12507342They have -2 seconds of input latency, the system knows what you're going to press before you do.
>>12507347-2 secondskek
>>12506229Stop making sense…. The only thing I can think of that would stop them is A. Maybe licensing out their games on subs for things like NSO is to profitable and maybe they think it would cut inB. May think the resources aren’t worth itC. If the mini genesis 2 had been a massive success and had hugely high demand then that may have spurred them on. As is, as far as I know (last I checked) they have gone down in price and there was a supposedly limited supply. I have a couple brand new. Was hoping they would sky rocket so I could trade it for a complete Genesis/CD/32x or sell it and buy said Genesis complete/“Neptune.”Also OT but the model 2 Genesis are fing tanks. I have several that were just messy one had soda poured all over it the guy I got it from spilled it and had been there for years. A couple screws loosened and some alcohol and like 30 minutes worth of cleaning putting back together and the thing runs great. I guess I shouldn’t say tank since those things break down but you get the analogy.
>>12506259Didn’t even realize analog did this. As in the poster mentioning how absolutely tanky the model 2s were, and how they just work and run forever, this is the console that least needed an fpga or I could see making any kind of profit when you can get authentic model 2 for like 20-30 bucks even if u have to clean it.
>>12507345Wanna sell me one of those 32x’s? Buddy had one growing up and I have like 4 or 5 model 2s just sitting around Nekkid! I’m not even kidding, what would you charge?
>>12507385>this is the console that least needed an fpgaIt has a fucking H D M I port and can be used with a DIGITAL ANALOG CONVERTER fuck YOU and YOUR model 2!
>>12507750Lmfao
>>12507750emulate, you get better results. FPGA offer nothing besides retards feeling good because they got scammed into spend money on a programmable cpu where nothing is actually accurate.this is on the same level of bullshit as most products shilled by RetroRGB. the fat faggot present everything as the best end all solution for your needs. even the retrotink as a VHS solution. give me a fucking break. stop falling for shill youtuber lies.
>>12501364Really, the ultimate system in a way, 8, 16 and 32 bit games in 1 system. The big problem I have is if I get a system like this I'd like it to play every single game from a flashcart, SMS, Genesis, 32X, Sega CD and Sega CD 32X. Technically there is a way to do it but you have to unplug the flashcart and put into the side port. There is also a mod to switch some of the lines when a sms game is detected to allow them to run on 32X. I think there should be a mod that wires the cart to the side port either from a menu or via a switch. Without that you would need a 2nd genesis with a 32x but that misses the point of it being an add on.>>12503384Sell them for $49.99 but Sega was too busy thinking they would beat Sony.>>12503391I think the new motherboards are super cool, I'd like to make one.>>12506229Isn't that what Gamescare are making. Hope they would make is cycle accurate so they don't have to update it each time new homebrew comes out.
>>12508045Digital. Analingus. Controller. DAC. Your argument is an invalid.
>>12506229I wish modern Sega had the same mentality as modern Atari with releasing new retro hardware and games. We would absolutely be able to get a legit Neptune that way. Also imagine all the modern genesis homebrew devs having a singular publisher that would have access to higher quality materials to make physical copies(as long as sega didn't half ass the process). Closest we get is them allowing Retrobit to make new controllers.
>>12508045How would you emulate a floating point unit?
>>12501381>everyone agrees it should had been released as the Neptune. That's not even close to true. It would have been an even bigger flop.
