What will Gen Alpha think of games like Doom when they reach adulthood and feel like exploring the older classics?
Somehow I feel like the performative mimicry of the past amongst zoomers won't be as interesting to gen alpha
>>12503356They will probably ask "where the battle royal mode is" or think "this is boring". But giving actual thought into it, I think it will be too simple for them to play for more than 20 minutes. They expect shooters with customization, modes, multiplayer, open worlds. But on the other end of the spectrum, I think old school rpgs will be ignored due to the prevalence of requiring you reading the manuals to know what the fuck you are doing, compared to tutorials telling you how to do anything. My nephew is a teen playing various games on pc and I have tried to introduce him to games like quake, the original fallouts, doom, diablo 1 and 2, but it doesn't seem to click with him. Unlike when I tried them for the first time around his age. For context I tried modern ports on GOG, so no virtual machine stuff to make it easier for him. Just not sure if he will like them. :(
Depends on what the state of the modern industry will look like in 10~ years I guess. Ignoring the average live service cattle, there's probably be at least a few A's who are genuinely interested in actual games.
>>12503356Some will like them, but most won't care, like with Gen Z now. That's what humans are like, and you're never getting everyone, you just need to appreciate the people who get it.>>12503387>They expect shooters with customization, modes, multiplayer, open worlds. You can get SOME of this with games like Doom, shitloads of mods and infinite levels. Of course, it's only the autistic ones who will care about old games like these.>>12503387Games like Diablo are extremely low friction to learn and engage with, so I assume he just doesn't care about old games. It's how it is, but there's still a minority of his generation who are actually interested in things like these, and who are much more receptive to it.It's kind of funny to see that compatible type of zoomer having that awakening, checking out some classic games or movies because it was brought up by some YouTuber or whatever, and they start going "Hold on, why is a lot of this just better than most big mainstream stuff?">>12503392There is THAT trajectory, yes, the AAA scene is dire in this day and age.I think it's clear that the AAA scene is going to hit some kind of semi-crash, because companies like Ubisoft have gone past sustainability, and there's no more room to grow, monetization and raising prices just won't catch up with how much more expensive the games are getting, and they can't have all those employees. Now, whether or not this shit is then going to get better or not is anyone's guess (it could get much worse in interesting ways), but there's strong contrasts with smash indie hits not asking for an arm and a leg.Retro games is another type of refuge from that bullshit, and this is reflected in sales, re-releases of old classics are actually selling way better than most brand new big budget games, and part of that is that they're typically a lot cheaper.
>>12503356gen alpha will be operating robot soldiers in combat zones and actually killing real people for trophies and podcast shoutouts
>>12503885It's literally way cheaper and more effective to just send them there in person, and this will likely never change.
>>12503934the military industrial complex deliberately finds things to spend on that are NOT cheap. it’s corporate welfare. if they were worried about cost, they wouldn’t be using drone warfare for a decade. they worry about lack of recruits and no appetite for human killing. the army already recruits gamers. driving a tank or drone is basically playing a videogame. get with the times, homie. they’re playing games already. the next step is no human soldiers
they'll like games with simple controls and nice pixel art, that can be easily emulated. they'll appreciate the story of something like Final Fantasy or Fallout.they'll dislike early 3D and games/consoles that have long load times built-in, or complex systems tied to e.g. a weird keyboard layout.
>>12503356playstation 7 will hook you up to a bio control system that lets you feel everything, and gen alpha will have mass deaths related to starvation and game-induced heart attacks. if you have social credit good enough to allow you to leave your work cube in your smart city with no car or pets and roach burgers
>>12503960cool larp faggot, your overlords would never squander your usefulness by allowing retarded sponge behavior
>>12503947You're kind of right to an extent, but at the end of the day if you don't have boots on the ground to capture and hold objectives you want, you're not actually getting them.Computers are too retarded to do it themselves and will never catch up even to a stupid human brain, and remote controlling has various limitations (drone warfare in Ukraine isn't even wireless anymore). The notion that it's all gonna be remote controlled and AI steered robots and drones is basically a Jetsons tier fantasy about making warfare comfortable and stress free. Drones are just another facet of warfare which any relevant military will need to learn how to use and how to counter, same with tanks, machineguns, and airplanes in WW1.
>>12503972no one is trying to win these wars, homie, it’s a racket. banks start wars, not the military
>>12503356who gives a fuck. honestly?
>>12504002>NOOOO STOP DISCUSSING VIDEO GAMES! WHO GIVES A FUCK!!hang yourself nigger, thanks!
>>12503990Still almost getting it.
I feel like the average zoomer that plays doom is doing it very performatively. ngl I get bored of doom very quickly and most "hard" levels just turn into the same boring shit. something like quake has infinitely more replayability
Gen Alpha won't play much retroZoomers still got a little taste of analog era and they LARP like they grew up with it when its just a fading memoryGen Alpha won't give a fuck. Their nostalgia is going to be post 1.12 Minecraft and Roblox mods.
>>12503356>exploring the older classicsTo them that will be playing Half Life 2 and thinking, "wow, I can see why they didn't make a sequel"
My younger brother tried doom and q1 and thought they're boring. Xonotic (q1 mod) was fun tho, he even tried some mapping for it
>>12503356A majority won't even think about playing classic games and either trash talk them or quietly respect them at a distance, a minority will try them and be put off by differences in design philosophy, and a minority of that minority will like them for what they are. They'll then go to internet places like /vr/ and talk about old games.
>12503368>Somehow I feel like the performative mimicry of the past amongst zoomers won't be as interesting to gen alpha
>>12504338I'm fine with that. We don't need millions of people here, only the people who actually care about these games.
>>12504003Stick to 80 hour long video game essays, beaner
>>12504003You're not discussing video games, you just want to keep falling for the generational divide & conquer psyops
>>12505024>>12505056brown samefag
>>12503356The exact same meme shit zoomers think of it.>LE EPIC RIP AND TEAR!!>LE HECKIN GLORY KILLSTheir minds are conditioned since birth to worship youtuber opinions like its the Bible.
>>12505598you don't know that. it's probably true but still
>>12504210But will they even experience nostalgia? They have been playing the same games their whole life.
My kid thinks doom, quake, and half life are the coolest shit ever but hes also got autism like his old man
>>12506767>They have been playing the same games their whole life. It's a funny thing to write on a «old good new bad» board.
