"2nd and 3. Favre steps back to pass and IT'S PICKED OFF! Touchdown, Chicago!"
>>12505140and they're still making roster updates for this game
Sports games aren't good pre-PS1.
>>12505184stfu retard liar freak scumbag vomit fag
>>12505184in the 8-bit era they were glorified Tiger handhelds pretty much
>>12505195bullshit, baseball stars had full rosters and seasons and injuries, it was light years ahead
>>12505195indeed
>>12505209Yes that particular system is a glorified Tiger handheld.
>>12505184Tecmo Super Bowl is the best sports game ever made.
>>12505140This is a much beloved NES game that sold a lot of copies. It was apparently meant as a US exclusive but at a later date Tecmo decided to do a Famicom release. It sold about 2 copies and the game's existence is barely known in Japan.
>>12505637The Famicom version has updated player stats to reflect the 1989-90 NFL season, also there appears to be a few programming tweaks as it has less sprite dropout than the NES.
>>12505140The Japanese guy doing the voice clips in Engrish is slightly hilarious.>TREE DOWHN!
>>12505209>DAS A ROIGHT CLASSIC INNIT
>>12505140>1989 game>favre??? off a couple years there
>>12505676i think he's joking about the fanmade roster updates for the game
>>12505140it's fun but of course grossly simplified and missing tons of important elements of football
>>12505184Tecmo Bowl is alright. Very barebones though.
>>12505689Natsume's Quarterback Scramble was better, but it was Japan-only.
>>12505140WHY DO YOU EVEN PONDER PASSING?!
>>12505719This is not Detroit man, THIS IS THE TECMO BOWL!
John Madden Football was a far more cutting edge football sim and it ran on 8-bit hardware but then again it was a computer game so they had a lot more RAM and control inputs available than what the NES had to work with.
Which button do I press to tell the coach to throw the game because I'm jewish and money is on the line?
>>12505739>>>/pol/
>>12505740Nerve touched.
>>12505140SNK's Touchdown Fever was the first third party NES handegg title but it was pretty crap. They also waited three years for a US release by which time it was outdated.
>>12505730it's an MMC1 game, if they used MMC3 (which was available by the time the game was in development) they could do more with the engine
>>12505759TB came out February '89 and the first first party MMC3 game was SMB2 in October '88. Assuming at least a few months of dev time (say if work on TB began in late summer '88 and they completed it by around Christmas) then Tecmo wouldn't have had TxROM boards available yet. I do know that Shadowgate came out in Japan only a month later and it was MMC3.
>>12505772Shadowgate was probably an MMC1 game they switched to MMC3 after it became available. It doesn't seem to actually need MMC3 for anything and I wonder if they used it just so they could have a battery save without the player having to hold Reset down when he powered the console off.
>>12505739Based and true, sports are a joke.
>>12505845but sports vidya games are true and honestbesides Mutant League
>>12505851Good goy.
>>12505184>Sports games aren't good pre-PS1.
>>12505739ah you want derby stallionsold six million copies
>>12505993Sure bro. Here's your (You).
>Famidaily reviewing a baseball game
>>12505984Was just about to say, there were some amazing baseball games. Even the GB baseball was legit
>>12505184I agree 3D is when sports video games reached their peaks, PS1 and PS2 eras were great... but there was a lot of stuff before that which gave me a lot of fun and layed the grounds for what cme after. I'm into football/soccer and recently I went back to TECMO World Cup '93, played with Brazil wearing their blue kit, and beat Germany in the final in the last few seconds, that was a lot of fun and I cheered on that last goal just as I did in PS1/PS2 Winning Eleven back in the day, the same.
>>12505403>Yes that particular system is a glorified Tiger handheld. No? That's a tarded thing to say.
>>12505140Playing this game helped me understand the appeal of American football. Yeah its stop-starty but this game removes that so you can see that the ball is always moving forward (even if intercepted, the opposition will move forward with the ball) and there's a genuine hero worship aspect to it which I find fascinating.I like playing as Cinncinnati Bengals btw because they have possibly the most well-rounded team that still has a quality QB to work with.
>>12505984RBI 3 is for Chad’s only so OP is understandably ignorant of it
all sports games are deleted from videogame memory forever as every sportsball normalfag gets sucked into PTW gacha versions of them that nobody that cares about games can tolerate for fifteen seconds
>>12506707Tecmo Super Bowl is actually a good game on its own. Most sportsball games now (and have been for a long time) are made by westerners who just want the licences to make """realistic""" annualised releases with little or no gameplay changes year-to-year. But TSB has actual gameplay - it is actually properly fun to play. It was made by nips after all, and I bet my bottom dollar you're a huge fan of games made by them.
>>12506715you are misreading me. I am old and remember the era when sports games were just games and everyone played NHL 94 even if they didn't know shit about hockey. I'm saying they're getting deleted from videogame history because the active market is so weird and insular and only serves as this addon for people that have sportscenter or rich eisen podcasts on all day
all I want is good sprite-based sports games with cute girls
I generally enjoy sports games when the games aren't in yearly franchises. "Lesser" sports in particular as you aren't really exposed to those so it all feels new. I prefer the matches being on a global timer as well as you can scale the time down properly. Too many baseball games without mercy rules or skippable innings. Full-on management games are just business sims in a sports setting (which is fine).
