This would really help with having physical collection or even selling copies. Looks like a great business idea.
>>12506613Generally in collector's circles it's looked down upon to make repros.
>>12506613Because we're not Chinese
>>12506621>collector's circleswhat year is it
Why don’t companies make more copies of old games? Why don’t they re release soundtracks more often?
>>12506613Bootleg collections are so fucking tacky. Just fucking emulate or use flashcarts. Having a bunch of bootlegged physical media is just so pointless. Not to mention decent quality repros cost a bit of money too, so you either have cheap shit that looks like shit or you end up spending a bunch of money anyway just to end up with a bunch of fakes, what's the point?
>>12506642Square Enix seems to be the only one who still reprints some ps1 games.
>>12506746It's new old stock, they're not actively pressing ps1 games
What kind of retard would spend precious physical space and money with this bullshit? Just use flashcarts, ODEs and burned discs.
>>12506613Most are just zero effort emulators that don't even play the games they pirate and only have games because of the effort of others making them free and easy to access
>>12506613The fuck are you even trying to say? Make replacement cover art/cases, something that is already done, or making whole fake discs?
>>12506856>burned discsWell Seymor you are an odd fellow but i must say, you steam a good disc.
>>12507259I think he's trying to reinvent russian enterpreneurs from the 90s selling cracked software with custom artwork and text on the jewelcase and pressed on cds
>>12506613Limited Run does it and people cream themselves over it. In fact they'll spend hundreds of dollars on a burned(not even pressed) game thay doesn't work on original hardware because of copy protection.
There's a healthy repro scene on Etsy.
>>12507316>In fact they'll spend hundreds of dollars on a burned(not even pressed) game thay doesn't work on original hardware because of copy protection. No they don't, not intentionally. They did it with D on 3DO and everyone who bought it ripped them a new asshole when they got their "games". LRG claimed they did it because of "issues with different hardware revisions" or some shit, despite them already selling another 3DO title before that via Piko on a pressed disc that worked perfectly fine. Lo and behold, when they were forced to make replacement pressed discs, they worked fine. They are just cheap retards. I think they may have pulled the same shit on customers buying a couple of their physical pc releases, but idk if they ever made proper replacements.>>12507316
I don't understand why disc-based media moved away from jewel cases. They looked cool and took up less space than these DVD and Blu-ray cases, too.
>>12507515They would often crack/break. That's not too bad by itself, until you add kids swallowing plastic splinters or stepping on one of those....I did step on one of those as a kid as i ran across the house. Lively crimson blood everywhere. So much so, my aunt fainted and i had to be rushed to the hospital.BluRay cases are more retard/childrenproof these are designed to bend under stress. Jewel cases, while more appealing, can shatter and have tidbits torn off it.
>>12507519NTA, but i agree on the size question. Would be interesting to see games use modern case plastic, but cd case sized, something pc games sometimes had. Its not like they really do 6th gen size manuals anymore and the games that do usually include them or art books, are not really full case size either. Switch cases also could be slimmed down considerably to famicom disk system case sizes, but i guess the size they have still draws eyes when facing cover out at game stores, even though japan always did smaller boxes.
>>12507312>selling cracked software with custom artwork and text on the jewelcase and pressed on cdsIIRC GOG did just that before that went legit
>>12507519>BluRay casesno one bought blurays, anon. failed tech. but yes DVD cases and latter game cases for non-disc mediums were tougher and bendable.
>>12507515>scuff/crack from a slight breeze>losing the manual also means not having the front cover artFuck JEWel cases, dude. And double-fuck those nonstandard cases that pal/jap PS1 games used. At least with regular jewel cases theyre standard so you can easily replace
>>12506651I like the physical act of going through my collection, looking at the boxes, opening them, taking out the cart or disk and putting them on, maybe flip through the manual while I sit back on the couch and the game loads. feels good, manI don't own any reproductions, but then again I don't know where I would get them. if they were well made, and if they were clearly labeled and not trying to fool anyone, I would buy them. I think as time goes on and shit just falls apart and prices become impossible, repros are innevitable
>>12507519I remember finding some website that was making "durable" jewel cases with less brittle plastic but it was like $5 a case or something nuts.
>>12507519>>12507718Okay, so jewel cases weren't perfect. How about a compromise?
>>12506651if the physical aspect isn't the point, then why have a physical collection at all?
>>12507316When is the last time they did that? I only see modern console releases lately
>>12507320Looks cool. Do they work well? I might buy some of those prohibitively expensive saturn games
>>12508051NTA, but for me, in addition to wanting physical copies to play, the collecting aspect is the same as trading cards or comics, i want the authentic thing. Plus, the official carts usually offer supperior build quality.
>>12506613I did this with some expensive gamecube games, printed the cover and put it in a dvd case. Once wii games became $5 it seemed not worth the effort. Just buy the games you think are really special and have the rest of the games you get for cheap, you don't need every game on the system.>>12506642They did a release with some Saturn games but they weren't able to replicate the inner spiral so you still needed a modchip. I think a game must work on stock hardware if your going to release anything like that.>>12508051I made some snes boxes and they looked pretty good on the shelf, it was pretty much the same as having the real thing. Its just cardboard in the end as a lot of people here like to say, a thing to look at to get you in the mood of the atmosphere of the game.
>>12507276I love this image.
>>12507940Great! Now put a bunch of eco-friendly holes in it.
>>12506613Disc printers are fucking expensive
