How did they invent a game with such pacing?
Can you name a game with more consistent gameplay?

Almost all arcade games

they cost too much

Most games. Even bad games. RE4 drops HARD after the village level.

crossing Hyrule field always breaks up action and slows things down.

Super Mario Bros 1. Better game too.
>>

lol
it's boring as fuck
>>
>>12506701
>Almost all arcade games
Pretty much. It's hard to go back to RE4 after playing rail shooters
>>
>>12507726
I love OOT, but it's way too fucking easy. It's overtweaked to ensure people wouldn't get frustrated and it ends up being a snoozefest if you aren't a 9 year old or a journalist. I think the pacing is good though, but it needs more to it. Enemies should be much more aggressive and they should be on the overworld as well. More Stalfos and Lizaflos style enemies too, with less obvious tells. If they had moblins with bows/arrows like the 2D games that would have been perfect. It's one reason I still think a remake could work.
>>
>>12506701
>>12507893
Arcade shooter pacing only works because the games are a short blast that are meant to be replayable. Any other game that's longer and tries that pacing ends up being boring, like RE6. The pacing is relentless and it's one reason the game is shit.

Not even a fraction of arcade games have good pacing, retards. Most of them flow like constipated dogshit. The fact that a game lasts 15-30 minutes total means that any second of throwaway filler content is amplified that much more. It's not uncommon to get an entire level of filler in a game with 6 levels total. There are literally thousands of arcade games out there, and no, the majority of them are not good and not well paced. Stop with this poser ass glazing of games you don't play.

resident evil 4

Not trying to ruin these games for anyone
>mgs1 has the key temperature thing at the end
>mgs3 has the motorcycle scene which drags on at the end

>>

>*consistency*
Ok. This is retarded.
>>
>>12508078
these are the most obscenely minor things to complain about when the rest of the games are perfection, and even your complaints are about cool things.
>>
>>12507893
This. RE4 is literally just
>gallery shooter but slowed down and you move the camera
Ultimately, true rail/gallery shooters are more pure because they funnel you from scenario to scenario at their own pace instead of letting you wander around areas that have nothing of value to see anyway.
>>
>>12508152
re4 is a 3d action/adventure shooter with merchant weapons upgrades and a fun minigame and a great story with an insane amount of areas. it isn’t meant to be an exploration rpg game or a platformer. it’s dmc with guns and limits on ammo but interconnected rather than mission-based. it’s not a rail shooter at all. you’re trying too hard
>>
>>12508152
Imagine thinking a rail shooter is better than RE4 lmao. Majority of them are just waiting around as the level passes by and memorizing which directions enemies come from
>>
>>12506694
>Can you name a game with more consistent gameplay?
Any game older than RE4
>>
>>12508148
Yes it's just that a lot of games drop the ball towards the end and if I'm doing a challenge run in mgs3 I usually would consider it done when I beat volgin in cqc. Even if the part where you escort eva for 2 screen is kind of intense.
>>
>>12508078
>mgs1 has the key temperature thing at the end
Though I am a big critic of Twin Snakes, the fact this was fixed is a huge boon in its favor. I don't remember if the PSG1 and tower backtracking was still bad or not, in MGS1 when you beat Mantis, you have to reach Wolf, run all the way back to the hangar, get the sniper rifle, run all the way back to Wolf, get captured after the fight, and then run all the way back to Wolf's area again
>mgs3 has the motorcycle scene which drags on at the end
Funfact, you can cheese entire segments of this part by equipping the soviet flag camo, they refuse to fire on the flag.
>>
>>12508202
dumbass don’t you know how to use cardboard boxes in mgs
>>
>>12508208
It's faster to just go on foot.
>>
>>12507213
You only have to cross Hyrule Field like twice, once as a kid to get to Zelda and again to get to Gerudo desert. This complaint is so idiotic. It tells me that you kids barely even played the game if at all because it's littered with short cuts to make this a nonissue but seeing how the other reply is >>12507726
Something tells me that you two are probably just tourists from /v/ just from the quality alone.
>>
>>12508161
And yet, the SINGLE instance of RE4 actually making any use whatsoever of its free movement is literally the "bullshot" tier village opening section. It's specifically designed to make you think that the entire game is going to be as meticulously crafted as it, yet the game rapidly devolves into encounters that might as well have been on rails.
Congratulations on being a dumbass who falls easily for the most low-level psychological tricks, at any rate.
>>
>>12508236
you’re wrapped up in your own delusion, pal. i never thought for a second the whole game would be the village, and i think the village is the weakest section of the game and have no clue what you’re talking about in regards to it being meticulously crafted. you’re stuck on a ridiculous narrative and using it as a wedge to fight about the game.
>>
>>12506694
This game sucks and looks like dog shit. How much brown can a game have? Holy shit. Ugly ass game.

The way that Hyrule Fieldl is just *there* for you to explore but largely optional and otherwise avoidable is really cool. Way too many people seem to think this one area is supposed to be "the game" or something, when it's like one section of a game with like 50 major areas.
>>
>>12506694
>How did they invent a game with such pacing?
They considered making a game with bad pacing, but, after giving it some thought, decided that making a game with good pacing would be better.
>>
>>12508253
you never played it
>>
>>12506694
I got bored before I even hit the castle. the combat doesnt feel good and is braindead easy. shooting targets and looking for trinkets is not fun either.
>>
>>12508334
you probably played the pussified version and not the american gamecube difficulty level
>>
>>12508282
False. I have played it and it is an ugly ass game. First 5 minutes of the game is brown ugly shit.
>>
>>12508221
>>12508208
I just timed this, it takes one minute to go from NS elevator->Hangar elevator, but it takes a bit over a minute to go from truck->elevator. Even if you could instantly teleport to the truck from the nuclear storage instead of waiting in the NS truck it's faster in every way to just run there.
>>
>>12508134
Stop parroting this retarded idea.
Arcade games had to be meticulously built to hook and engage you with perfect pacing and gameplay. People wouldn't continue to feed quarters into them if they had no fairness or balance to them and were just blatant scams. Arcade game design was peak.
RE4 is an arcade game at heart. That's literally why it's so good.
>>
>>12509274
Fuck off.

Arcade video games are similar to casino games.

There are no consistency in those cheese games. Period.
>>
>>12509275
ok retard
>>
>>12509275
Not an argument. You literally have no idea what you're talking about.
>>
>>12509280
Arcade games: rely on luck and memorization to beat the game. You can't pick up an arcade game and beat it on your first try or 1cc it. The difficulty increases drastically to drain your coins, or decreases drastically at certain points to give a false sense of ease, causing the player to lower their guard and die easily to the next difficulty spike. The definiton of inconsistent gameplay.

Regular games: learn the game along the way and you will beat it. At first contact, It's possible to complete the game without dying even once, assuming your IQ isn't too low.

>>
>>12509342
Yeah RE4 is awesome.
>>
>>12509419
Not a single one of the codec calls in RE4 is longer than 2 minutes. It's called pacing, something Kojimaslop is completely allergic to.

Skip the obvious action/arcade picks. Super Mario RPG (original or Remake) has better pacing than Resident Evil 4.

It’s insanely tight for an RPG. Short, punchy dialogue, no filler, and constant forward momentum. Areas are compact but varied, so nothing overstays its welcome. Battles are quick and interactive with timed hits, no sluggish turn-based drag. You’re always switching between exploration, combat, and light platforming, so it never feels static.

The remake sharpens this even more. Faster menus, smoother transitions, and cleaner visuals make everything feel immediate. It’s basically an RPG with action-game flow. Not sure if the Remake is /vr/ approved but it's pretty damn faithful to original
