>but maybe Sega was above in software sal-
>>12506727Ouch
I'll definitely be thinking about these numbers while I'm playing Burning Rangers
>>12506727Could Derby Stallion III have saved the Saturn?
>>12507390I'll definitely be singing that awesome theme song while I'm playing Burning Rangers.
>>12506723N64 sisters, what went wrong?
>>12506723It's interesting how neck and neck they were. Had FF7 not released would the sales have remained this way for longers or would other games like Resident Evil and SOTN push their sales up so rapidly?
>>12506723I mean it's still pretty ok, obviously whichever console get FF/DQ will btfo the competition
>>12507939Bad examples, those were on both consoles
>>12508116They released much later (and worse)Resident evil was huge in the early success of the PS1 in japanSOTN not so much, Castlevania has always been more popular in the west,it's pretty niche in japan
>>12506723Man, the PlayStation...
>>12506723LOLOk, now show what would happen if the reverse was true and FF7 was Saturn exclusive. PS1 would be FUCKED.
>>12508865New anime plot: building a time machine to convince Sakaguchi to make FF7 exclusive to the Saturn to save itSLOW ass captcha today

>>12507932Derby Stallion 64 didnt come out til a month before the gamecube and in that time playstation got 2 derby stallion games and the super Nintendo got 2 or 3 more. Literally no point to buy one.
>>12506723>>12507932>In May 1996, Sony cut the price of the PlayStation in the US to $199, followed by another drop to $149 in March 1997. By late 1998 and early 1999, the price fell to $129
>>12509047Saturn cut prices as well and also gave away piles of games with purchase starting in 1996.
>>12506723>>12506727>what's most popular is bestClassic
>>12509047If only Nintendo could learn the forbidden dark art of price cuts...
>>12509061>what's most popular is bestWell kind of in video gamesThe more popular the console is ,the more games it get
>>12506723Not dominating but neck in neck. FF7 came out in January 97 and that is right when PS1 sales pulled away and Saturn sales flatlined. It's loss in Japan was inevitable the moment Square chose Sony.I think Sega could have mitigated things with 2 games. A big 3D Phantasy Star 5 production that released just beforehand and of course a good 3D Sonic game(not whatever fisheyed mess Xtreme was) for the west. I don't think there was any chance of them "winning" the generation, just surviving it with an acceptable 20-25mil console sales.
>>12509073I'd still rather have a console with less games where those games tend to follow the Sega arcade style than more games where most of them are Nintendo or feel like Nintendo.
>>12506723sonyponies btfo
>>12509154>nov 94 through mar 95 is before ffvii>saturn was dominatinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hou0lU8WMgo>>12509079>Not dominating but neck in neck. FF7 came out in January 97 and that is right when PS1 sales pulled away and Saturn sales flatlined. This is the fuller answer though
>>12506727Someone should have combined Derby Stallion and Biohazard. I smell big crossover potential there.
>>12509047>Chart is about Japan sales>Mentions US pricing for some reason
>>12509154>March 95>Tekken released for the PlayStation >PS1 outsold the SaturnTekken saved the PS1!!!
Imagine if Derbystal stormed the West instead of Pokemon in the late 90s.
>>12506727It's crazy how long a tail the Super Famicom had in Japan, it really was the best system nintendo ever made.
>>12510890Here's the 4th best selling game of 1996, name five (5) games that sold better. I'll wait.
