What is the difference between you and I? Why is it that I succumb to choice paralysis and idle scrolling if I'm given too much access to a console's library and you say it's no big deal? How are we looking at this situation differently?
>>12509009This is a hot take, but my opinion is you don't really like playing games, you like the idea of playing games. So you look at a huge list and get anxious about picking the "wrong one" or something like that and not having as much fun as you think you should. So you watch youtube gameplay videos and read reviews trying to determine if it's something worth your time and usually conclude that it isn't. I just like games so given a giant list and my mood I either pick something I know I like and feel like playing or just pick something at random and play to see if it's fun. If it is I keep going, if it's not I pick something else. I've discovered a ton of games I really like that way.You could also have some sort of anxiety disorder.
>>12509009Play bust a move retard
>>12509009You lack the Faustian spirit.
>>12509023What goes on in my head is I think what playing a specific game entails then tell myself I'm not in the mood for that kind of gameplay. This just keeps happening over and over as I scroll past something that sounds interesting so I end up unfulfilled.
>>12509023What goes through my head is when I land on a game that sounds interesting I start thinking about what that game's gameplay is like and as I think through it I become convinced I'm not in the mood for that sort of game. So I keep on scrolling to the next one then it happens again and again, ultimately ending up with nothing sounding good in that moment.
>>12509009>What is the difference between you and I?I only download the games I'm interested in playing
>>12509009>Why is it that I succumb to choice paralysisMaybe you're thinking too much about "making the right decisions".There's no such thing. And it's fine if you just wanna mess around, idly watch the screen or just go through the motions in a game.Boredom and idleness has its uses, don't let people tell you otherwise. They're just here to shame and put you down.Life isn't a list you check things out of. You can't take that list to your grave anyway, so why bother?
>>12509026>>12509027Yeah, that sounds like you enjoy the idea of playing games but don't actually find that many of them live up to how much you think you should enjoy them.
>>12509031>he doesn't believe in the final results screen that determines what eternal paradise or punishment ending you get
Are zoomers so used to being told what to do they don't even know how to overcome choice paralysis? Its a real thing, but the consequences aren't exactly dire if you end up picking a game you don't like. In fact, if they were, people would learn to appreciate things outside of top 10 lists. A lot of people's favorite games could often be literal who titles because it was what they got stuck with and learned to appreciate. Give yourself a limit of like 10 games a month to choose from or something idk.
>>12509081Sometimes the counterexample reinforces the example. If everyone's exposed to the very best, then nothing's the very best. It's all uniformly mediocre. That's why you see a bunch of tourists harshly criticizing a minor flaw in a 30+ year old game using modern standards and context as a backdrop. That or engagement baiting/opinion regurgitation.>>12509076I'm sure Joe McGrandpa went to hell because he didn't play Doom 2. Poor bastard.
>>12509093>If everyone's exposed to the very best, then nothing's the very best. It's all uniformly mediocre.Yup, which is why, like most of life, the approach requires nuance relative to the person applying it. If they're too risk averse, limit their initial choices to games that are well received. Otherwise go with all random, or maybe a combination of random and well received, or do it like we used to and grab a few screenshots and boxarts and let your judgements guide you. Guess my point is that the problem stems from excessive availability, which removes a lot of the personal investment in the decision. I'm, mostly coming from a place of how to get past the paralysis for people who are incapable of doing so, who should work their way up to being able to accepting the risk a game might suck when they can appreciate how insignificant of a risk that actually is.
>>12509184I think all-random is probably the way forward, because it doesn't set any expectations.Curated lists takes away the exploration element and impoverishes the reader>Risk AversionYup. A big problem is: nobody wants to waste their time or suffer, but paradoxically they'll find themselves wasting their time and suffering due to this attitude. They're not ready to live life as it is, they're just waiting for bus to arrive and take them to a pristine and clean dreamland.Sometimes there are games that are just about frustrating, but compelling enough that it drives you forward....Sometimes it's pure shit, but at least you know why it's pure shit and maybe you can look back and laugh at it and/or reminisce.
>>12509028I used to do this. Get hyped for a game, then buy ut and immediately play it. Now, something changed, because I have a massive backlog for the first time in my life. (80 games that I own but haven't played and 375 more on my wishlist) I wait for sales on games now and buy a few at a time, then never play any of them because I'm not hyped for them in that moment. I don't know if this is normal from getting older, caused by my clinical depression, or wtf, but I don't like it. I miss when I didn't think and just played
>>12509262Never liked the idea of backlogs, they just add unnecessary pressure and have a "treadmill" effect.Back in college i'd see my mates making all those elaborate plans and failing to fulfill on every single one of them. One even had a fully scheduled life, down to a T. He dropped out 2 semester later.
>>12509009I'm an adult human, you're a baby zooman. Nothing more too it.
>>12509009Because you'd rather make a thread about it since you find the attention on 4chan to be more stimulating than playing a videogame at this moment. Try waking up tomorrow and booting up that one videogame you really wanted to play first thing in the morning, instead of checking your phone or opening YT/4chan.
