Part of the fun was pressing down and closing the lid.

Imagine if when you went to use a vhs you just placed it on top of the player instead of it sucking in the tape. would feel like shit!

Why games would stop working was the slot connector inside the nes would get bent out of shape, not the games

yes and in turn would cause the games to have issues as well, it honestly pisses me off that it took 25+ years to figure out that the NES was just a game destroyer, i lost countless games due to the pushing down feature and then only to realize that i could have still had functioning games had I used game genie more often.
