What's your favorite SimCity, anons?
>>125127912000.I still play 3k occasionally.
>>125127913000. Mainly for the OST.
I'm also in the 3K camp. 4 is probably the best but it's such a pain in the ass to set up.
>>12512791Cities Skylines but really I like all of them except the 1st one. I never played it though, the first one I got was 2000. I liked it a lot, same with 3k an 4. It's just a really good concept for a game, even through various flaws and bugs all of them are fun.
>>12512791I still wind up fucking around with the SNES version a lot even though it's relatively barebones. Mostly out of nostalgia and for the music. On PC, even though I played 2000 quite a bit as teen (mostly at school), I'd have to go with 3000. I really wish Sim City 64 was translated, though. You can bumble through it pretty well, but eh. Thought about using a live translator with it, but haven't tried it yet.
SC4 is pretty good save for some baffling decisions like the way commuting works and some weird caps/jumps on demand, agricultural is nighly useless; too much land use, not enough jobs and tax, high-tech industry is glitched af, buildings immediately dilapidate by the slightest inconvenience, etc.Plugins can fix this and you'd get a solid game out of it, it's simple and effective, smoother than sc3k, which admittedly is still a good game.
The one and only one I played was 4.However, I am the biggest shitter in it>do well as tutorial teaches, meaning build tier 1 density housing, industry and commercial>build services ONLY as they are requested>adjust budget to bare minimum for all services>decrease budget on uneccesary shit like road maintenance >build casino via missions for extra incomeIts after this that I start to stumble>rich housing in desired zones (with parks, trees planted, private schools and mayor's house) gets abandoned and are occupied by nigs because commute time>i try to work on the issue by increasing road budget, building better infastructure around high desirability areas such as water, better roads, commercial sector, more public transport options>rich sims next to it refuse to work at places not far, prefering some place butt fuck who knows where>or 15 minute commute time is still long>abandoned due to commute timeand if I try to do that for the entire city>balance in negative, accountant girl flashing red and throwing a fit.
>>125127914 has such a great OST. I played that one the most since 2003.
Sim City 2000. I wish it had an open-hack version or something so maybe they could backport features from future versions, but overall I just love its gameplay and aesthetic. I could never get into 3000.
>>12512996I played this one to death in my classes during college on my phone, good times. What it lacks in features compared to its successors it makes up for in how comfy it is. But I think the SNES is a comfy console in general.
>>12512791The Sims on PC, with custom build/buy audio folders loaded up with orchestral versions of the original SimCity tracks.>>12512996Otherwise this
4, I played the fuck out of 4. I played the original and 3000 a lot, but 4 is my favorite. Protips for 4:>don't get caught up in recycling and other trash disposal methods, the power-generating incinerator is the way to go, just shove it in a corner of the map surrounded by trees to soak up the pollution, and drop it's funding down to $1 a month. It will burn through a specific amount of trash every month and practically no power, but for $1 a month you won't find a cheaper way to get rid of garbage>it's easiest to build residential neighborhoods in a circle, with all government services buildings in the center. With a little tweaking, you can get their coverage areas to overlap. Then you just plant residential zoning in all areas inside the circle, and varied commercial zoning on the outside edge. This allows you to maximize the efficiency of your schools and hospitals for minimal cash>spend time tweaking your bus system. With enough effort and proper placing of the stops, you can create a bus system that both cuts down on your traffic AND generates a profit>need some extra cash? Create some cities that only have connections to your city, then wait until they offer a deal to send you trash for money. You incinerate all trash, so the increased volume shouldn't be an issue, making it free money>once your city stops growing and starts to stagnate, that's the game's way of telling you that you need better infrastructure for your businesses to grow. You need to install an airport. Later on, you'll hit another wall and need the next airport up. Yes, they are expensive to operate monthly, the goal is to make your city profitable enough as it grows to be able to absorb the cost of operating the airport.
>>12512996>the community intends to take law enforcement into its own handsis this supposed to be a bad thing?
>>12513985They don't ever take it into their own hands, so the crime rate just increases while the population decreases until you're left with only criminals squatting in derelict donut blocks.
>>12513331Did you install the network mod? It makes commutes bearable for sims and they stop whining about it.
>>12512883Total sub-110 IQ death when?
>>12514097Kino. I think I'm gonna build a gothamesque dystopia in the near future.
>>12513331Seconding the network mod (NAM), transportation is all kinds of fucked up without it.
>>12514147>getting this mad over videogamesYour sub-110 T seems like a bigger problem.
>>125127913000
Simcity 4 is theoretically the best one. Great atmosphere, great soundtrack, but it's a massive pain in the ass to terraform an entire region and install a load mods before you play. Simcity 3000 is easier to hop into, and making the terrain and city layout "perfect" is less necessary since the simpler graphics allow your mind to fill in the gaps
>>125127913000.>neighbour mayors increasing immersion>sims begging stuff creating a roleplaying atmosphere>colorful>best series' OST>portraits are very well made describing the characters' personality with little details>UI is a good example of how to use colors in a game>it filters zoomoids keeping the community free of retards>very democratic allowing to choose between an empowered and diverse group of advisors or a chud one
>>12514550That game has so much charm, even a mundane thing like a thanksgiving parade is a nice break in the game>european version>maria montoya ftmthey were really ahead of their times>constance leebrunette is so much better, blonde looks like a failed kpop biosurgical reject
>>12512791Obviously, Streets of Sim City.
I only ever had SC2000 and I only ever really liked sending the disasters to the premade cities
>>12514732You never did the thing where you make one first and then walk around?
>>12514550>3000>it filtersAbsolutely no one, because 3000 is the easiest game in the series to get a working town out of, and the easiest game to get a massive commercial skyscraper city out of.
I'm genuinely too low IQ for Simcity 4
>>12517184Build some parks around your residential areas. One "small" park about every 10 tiles. This will attract wealthier sims to live in your city. Also make sure to build schools right at the start of the game. This will get your sims educated sooner, so that they can start doing high tech industry instead of dirty industry. You also have to be very conservative with your money. Building services like hospitals, fire station, etc are expensive. Only build them when the advisors start complaining at you. Except for a fire station in the industrial area. You'll want that lol.
>>12517407Gentrification is not good
>>12517184The secret, like every good politician, is to ignore most demands and balance the budget with huge surpluses.it's fine if people are fucking dying in an overcrowded hospital. As long as it's there and reasonably funded, there won't be many complaints>>12517407If you want to metagame hard, you can skip the expensive educational system altogether and spam libraries and museums lolLibraries are quite nice, because you can underfund the fuck out of them and they have insanely high capacities. Most importantly, every city "progress" is transferred through borders, so it's a good idea do try building new citiesDon't build rural zones. skip to dirt industries, they bring a lot of tax revenue and nobody will care about pollution at earlier stages of the game.Like this anon said >>12513880, bus systems are pretty great, but don't sleep on rail. Abuse one-way roads and avenues for commuting, specially if residential areas are nicely surrounded by commercialBe careful with subways - the cost can balloon really hard and they have about the same "pickup" range as a bus stop.Forget about monorails and highways.
