holy, i missed this. i had high stakes then. and gran turismo, ridge racer 4. this is tops as well. yes i know your pc version is better. this is all i got. it was in my closet, based on my receipt i got it used in 2006. just had a lot going on and forgot to play it. i had played high stakes in the late 90s, early 00s a lot. now playing hot pursuit on ps1, i think it might be better. tell me if this sounds accurate, need for speed fan. or tell me what i need to play elsewise in the series or about ps1 racers if you know the best ones. i’m hooked again. gona play ps1 the rest of the year, i have lots of discs. racing seems to me like where i want to explore. thinking of buying colin mccrae, i never played that and it was reviewed well in the old days. mentally, i have slipped into fantasy somewhat as i have been mistaking present day for the ps1 days. i’m deliberately not talking to people and only watching 90s movies. this had enhanced enjoyment of ps1 games, they feel new to me again. need for speed iii is blowing my mind
>>12513898>yes i know your pc version is betterACKSHUALLY there are number of notable points where the psx version is superior to the pc version which means unless you are powered by nostalgia there is a solid case for playing either (or both!) versions of the game.
>>12514408thanks i feel better about playing this on my playstation.
>>12514413Brace for autism:PlaystationPros>has some unique graphical effects not present in the pc version like lights in the aquatica tunnel reflecting off the car roof>has the nazca C2, which is missing from pc version>car models aren't mirrored unlike the pc version>has more diverse traffic vehicles>a.i is notably more aggressive - especially in hot pursuit>has a number of hidden tracks on available through cheat codes>pc equivalent bullhorn cheat is on by default so the cops really are bellowing at you>can set time of day and weather to random in the menu for some pot luck racing conditionsCons>while analog support is available with the dual analog the only way to get analog throttle/brake is bind it to the right stick which isn't that great>still supports the negcon, support is still shit>has less standard content than the pc version>the hidden tracks are kinda shit - good for a few laps but you're not going back to them>no cockpit view at all>traffic in the atlantica course is one-way for some odd reason>some audio effects are massively lower quality than pc - notably the sound of thunder is really crunchy (applies to OG hardware too)
>>12514421PCPros>using modern patch it has proper widescreen support and can handle modern resolutions>runs much smoother out of the box>proper analog support so you can use the triggers on your modern controller to get varied throttle/braking force>more cars available>has fancier smoke effects>has option between vertex headlight lighting or projected headlights for night races>mods avilable which opens up a world of possibilities>cockpit view>death star>on modern systems framegen can be injected to get even more visual smoothness and in some cases even HDR can be injectedCons>car models while a higher poly count are mirror so you get lamborghini twice on the back of your diablo and one of them is written backwards>game engine is just a souped up NFS2 on pc, so handling model is more simple than psx>vertex headlights are blatantly designed for 4:3 so you tend to get flickering at the bottom fo the screen when using bumper cam specifically at widescreen FoV>projected headlights are basically just a gamma curve adjustment for the highlighted area, so you are just blowing everything out with the effect OVERALL SUGGESTION:A tough one really as you can't go wrong with either but these days I prefer the pc version.Protip: hold triangle on the psx version to hide the HUD, press F5 on pc to do the same.
>>12514421>>12514425awesome, thank you. ill s turning weather on random. i have this on playstation and don’t own a pc, but you have helped me to be even more excited about what i felt was a greater gap in comparison and highlighted the ps for me in a way that i feel like i’m very happy with the perks and tradeoffs. i really am having fun with this game.
