What do you guys think of hardware hoarding? Do you partake?
I've always thought it might be cool to have all the color variants of a beloved console, something like that, but I can't imagine turning my room into a goddamn Hard-Off.
I've seen an uptick in this kind of thing recently, people post their setups and have stacks of the same console somewhere. When asked they'll say they're spares for repairs and such, but wouldn't most of them begin to fail at the same time and in the same ways?
>>
the only thing more based than hoarding is throwing shit away

Maybe I would but my entire family are fucking hoarders, I want to break the cycle.

When I was like 14 I started dreaming of owning every version of the Game Boy to ever exist, at the time even the rarest ones were less than $200.
Once I grew up and had money they had all tripled in price and I realized I didn't need 100+ Game Boys.

HOARDING IS A MEME FROM SOUR GRAPE WANNABES WHO NEVER HEARD OF A LIBRARY IN THEIR LIFE
>>
>>12515976
Ok but why do you need 5 PS2s, capslock-kun?
>>
I have 10 different gameboys for no particular reason other than I think they're neat.
>>
It's gay and retarded. Those guys are just making it harder for everyone else to find and afford variants, when they're done all they've accomplished is waste magnitudes more money than if they chose one color
oh but they get updoots online from other retards who will clap and want to pursue the same pointless quest, totally worth it

>NEVER HEARD OF A LIBRARY IN THEIR LIFE
nigga this is as dumb as having a room filled with books that all have the same text but different colored covers. That's not a library that's mental illness

Did a red slim ps2 release in the US? I never remember seeing one
>>
>>12516110
Japan (SCPH-90000)
Latin America (SCPH-90010)
Israel or some shit (SCPH-90006)

those are most likely the only red variants

I have 12 PS2’s, currently 9 of them work
I don’t have them as “backups”, but rather because they have differences that I enjoy fiddling with and taking note of. Of course you need fat and slim, but you also need Deckard models and preferably different regions of each. On top of that you absolutely need modchipped specimens. How else will you know the difference in video output, how PS1DRV works, how they each handle certain softmods, the list goes on.

not really
ideally one console to play and one as a backup and/or to play away from the main TV
so I should get a spare N64 and Mega Drive II
>>
>>12515852
Haha horde mode
>>
>>12516273
provided that you share your research with others in the hobby this is completely justified hoarding
sane with having a backup for two for spare parts
if you're just sitting on a stack of consoles because it makes your e-peen feel big you are a fucker depriving others

Not really but I'm omw to becoming a digital hoarder. After all, the data inside the software is what holds actual value. I like the idea of having every version of every game for most of the major consoles, at least. It's basically free, there's no reason not to do it if you really like videogames.
>>
>>12516014
this and same
>>
>>12516083
Displaying them like a total soiboi is embarrassing but if I could have my own home be a museum of game consoles I would

Agreed. The people who own a gorillion of one console are the reason why buying a single one of that console is so expensive. I have two N64's (one to play, one as back-up) and that's enough for me. I have a few dupes of some of my games that I got cheap many years ago, but I've been considering selling some of them. Let the next generation of gamers buy and witness these old games before the hardware inevitably fails.
