This was considered a killer app in 1995.
Why did they ditch the long boxes but Saturn didn't?Why did we even have long boxes if Japan didn't? Don't give me some bullshit about retail shelves, CDs came in normal jewel cases from the start.
>>12515859>app
>>12515879>Why did we even have long boxes if Japan didn't? Don't give me some bullshit about retail shelves, CDs came in normal jewel cases from the start. They were trying to appeal to Americans>BIG BOX GOOD. BIG IS GOOD. BIG IS ALWAYS BETTER. BIG MAC, BIG TRUCK, BIG GUT
>>12515882NTA but people have been saying "killer app" since the 80s
>>12515882millenicucks try far to hard to act like everything they coined or invented are zoomer things
when will you post the third "This was considered a killer app"
>>12515916An app so killer it killed the Saturn!
>>12515879I think they were trying to give CD based games a more 'premium' feel so they made boxes that resembled VHS cases rather than chintzy feeling CD cases that constantly broke at the hinges or were easily cracked.
>>12515894>>12515893>I-I know something>gay frogsZoom zoom
>>12515893yeah but they were talking about jalepeno poppers
>>12515956Just take the L, man. I first learned of the phrase 'killer app' from 90s era video game mags.
>>12515879Many earlier CD releases came packaged in a 6" x 12" cardboard box with a normal jewel case inside that fit nicely in record store displays that formerly carried vinyl records. That stopped happening sometime in the early 1990s.Sega opted for a long jewel case for Sega CD games in America and just continued doing that with the Saturn library. The odd thing is that they used regular jewel cases in Japan and Europe for the Sega CD, but opted for long cases in Europe for the Saturn. My guess is that they figured the larger case helped make the game's artwork stand out more on a shelf. The PlayStation had three distinct iterations of the long case for the American market. Initially, they were identical to the long jewel cases used by Sega at the time before switching to the Q-Pack (the case with the ridges and glued-on labels). Some games were also released in a cardboard case with the same dimensions as the other long cases. The last PS1 game released in a long case was Tecmo World Golf on July 10, 1996. As for why they switched to regular jewel cases, I'd imagine it was a simple cost-saving measure (less paper to print). Regular jewel cases are also far less fragile than the longer jewel cases and Q-Packs.
Damn right it was a killer title.
>>12515859Indeed. A lot of early PS1 and Saturn titles were overhyped just by the mere fact that they were some of the first to tackle some genre in actual 3d, even if the quality of the title was kinda shit. That console generation was well known for people hating on anything familiar and wanting "innovation" over actual quality.>>12515882rent free
>>12515859It was 3D. That was literally enough at the time.
>>12515859the character designs and music are top notch, the game was fairly clunky but the pivoting was innovative. how'd it fail?
>>12516803It was okay as a launch game but definitely got overshadowed by Namco’s fighters.
>>12516820Namco and Psygnosis ruled the world by 1996 as far as playstation went.
>>12515882good b8
>>12515960should be easy for you to post an example then
>>12516834How would that be easy? As far as I know you can’t search for key words in archived scans of old magazines.
>>12515882I really hope you’re trolling.
Nigger App
>>12516793Toshinden was legit cool at the time though. Everyone I knew that got a Playstation at launch had it. "Some game that came later was better" is not much of an argument.
>>12515882Take a look in the mirror, pal. The term "killer app" has been around longer than you've been alive.
>>12515879playstation games with fat manuals had to be out in two-disc jewel cases, such as suikoden. it was easier to put them in a longbox, along with a map if the game had one
