I had a collection like that and sold 90% of it because flash carts and softmods exist. Original hardware is more valuable than original software, even if the market fails to reflect that.

98% of these guys never held a soldering iron in their lifetimes. So, why bother using ancient hardware if they need repairs and a stock of spare parts?
They just fire up snes9x in a $10,000 computer, "play" for 10 mins, take a photo, post on instagram and then resume normal goyslop gaming

Let me tell you my friend it’s not all it’s cracked up to be you know.

1. I am dreading moving out because transporting it from one house to another would be an absolute nightmare

2. Playing the games and then putting them back in the boxes is very annoying especially when you have box protectors on them all.

3. Sorting them out in alphabetical order is a pain because when you get more games you have to take them all off the shelf and then sort them out and put them all back on.

4. It has become a lifelong obsession and once you have a collection this large you cannot stop. I guess it’s the “CONSOOOM” meme but it’s true, why stop when you’ve almost got it all.

5.you have to dust the games every few weeks because somehow the shelves get filled with dust( this might be a me problem so ignore this point)

7. As a CIB collector you become obsessed with the condition of the boxes to a point of you wont purchase a game if it has a little tear or crease in the box. Don’t even get me started on sunfading. Fuck that. Hate that shit.

8. May God help the person who inherits all this crap. It will take an eternity to sell it all. Or it will probably end up in a dumpster lol.

yeah I know a guy who's a CIB collector and I'm sure his collection is worth a ton but it sounds like complete misery. I'm trying to get down to 5 systems, less than 100 games, that's my goal.
>>
>>12516406
Im betting 60%+ of shitlords that frequent this board have collections like that. The remaining 40% are seething 3rd worlders.
>>
>>12516536
Same. Just focusing on NES, Gameboy, Super NES, N64 and Gameboy Color and that’s it. Also another point is running out of space.

I have a few hundred gameboy and gameboy color games in storage because I don’t have any room anymore.

Yes, the people that went through the trouble to amass vast quantities of gaming shit, especially back when it was worthless, dont actually have any interest in playing games.
>>
>>12516454
Yet you confine such code in your computer. How curious.
>>
>>12516406
I only collect games I want to play, or games that I've played and liked enough to spend money on.
I've only got, like, sixty old games I'd like to get my hands on and then I'd only be buying games to actually play.
>>
>>12516545
Correct. It's all preformative.
>>
>>12516541
Yeah. I need to get rid of about 8 systems and 150ish games and it's an extremely daunting task. I'm not counting handhelds because they don't take up a ton of space, I really should play them more though.
>>
I will never downsize. Im not going for every yearly sports and gameshow title, but i love having a huge library to pick from.

>>12516540
judging by how popular /hhg/ is, they might have 2-4 consoles and about 20~100 games. Everything else is emulation / mini pcs /handhelds.
>>12516541
N64 boxes are a menace and quickly fill up space because you can't leave them in the open.
At least with PS1/PS2 they can be stacked pretty neatly and don't take up much space

Those cartridge displays at picrel look nice, until they start collecting dust at the bottom. So they need to be stashed vertically or in a drawer
>>
I feel the utmost contempt for collections that are 80% Nintendo and 20% the rest. Specially if it's full of manchild merch.
>>
>>12516521
>you have to dust the games every few weeks because somehow the shelves get filled with dust
One thing that prevents dust is getting an old bed sheet and draping it over the top of your game collection. I know that the whole point of having your collection on a shelf like this is so that it can be viewed, but you can just take the sheet off when you want to admire it or show it to people. Dust will collect on the sheet instead of the games underneath. Every few weeks, take the sheet off and wash it. I do this with all of my consoles and electronics.

No manchild merch though, such as the plushies in the OP pic. I only keep games and consoles in my collection. Even I, a 100% Nintendo collector and diagonsed autist, think having plushies and posters or whatever is lame.

>downloads hundreds of roms for each system
>scrolls through the list and finds something to play
>starts it up, plays for 5 minutes and then goes back to browsing his rom list
>i-i actually play games
You have zero investment in something that you didn’t spend money on or that you spent peanuts on. It’s why Steamfags all have “collections” of hundreds of games they bought on sale that they’ll never play. Spending a good amount of money on one game at a time and dedicating time specifically to it is the most surefire way to not build a backlog. People with collections that they’ve built up since they were young have played and finished far more games than you ever will. Note: this doesn’t apply to poser collectorfags that just go on ebay and buy up everything they can for future Jewish resale reasons. They’re even bigger subhumans than emulator fags. But someone with a collection of games they’ve built up and finished over the years is definitely a higher tier of human than you.

>>

Midwit.
>>
>>12517479
this argument is so fucking tired and retarded. when i emulate, it's because i really want to play a specific game that i might not have on hand, so i download that game and play it, simple as. maybe some fatties download hundreds of roms and never play them, but not me. any argument in favor of original hardware should prioritize the quirks and ritual of playing on original hardware, not some contrived bullshit about muh investment.

>>12517529
seen a few retarded faggots like this retard faggot you're replying to. don't worry. this retard faggot also has copies of all the roms to play in their flash carts so they don't damage their originals. and over the last few years there's been an increase of retards collecting old shit, hoping to cash in and only seeing prices going nowhere because they arrived too late and bought a bunch of shit nobody wants to buy at near-new prices for 35 year old cartridges.

sell, invest the money, get a 2-3 flashcarts instead.

But no one has an issue w someone having a library of books. That will never not be funny to me… because books are even easier to have in one location off of one device since their sizes in code are so small. Maybe 100 dollars and you could have every book ever created on one single hardrive but people still have massive collections of books. No one complains or cares. It’s almost like for our hobby, people are just bitter. I see that and I’m like sure, have a collection. No different to me then if you posted a room w walls that were filled with books.

people collecting books at least read them. once your video game collection is big enough you are probably spending more time looking for certain stuff or organizing your collection than playing it. at the end of the day its just games, meant to be played. not some kind of investment.

This cope will never not be funny especially since you KNOW individuals using it are terminally online and never actually play video games. They are projecting.
>>
>>12518092
>people collecting books at least read them.
Lol, no. It's literally the same phenomenon, i dare say worst because at the end of the day, games are baby toys for geeks, but people will buy "recommended reading" or so-called "deep/complicated" novels just as a means to peacock at having sophisticated/big brain tastes.(i suppose gaming does have similar instances)
>>
>>12516406
This is just a normal amount of video games. I have this many video games in my closet just from passively buying them to play them as a child. And I regret it enormously because most of them are garbage. I'm genuinely considering throwing them in the trash.

>>
>>12517029
Same. It's not that I hate (pre-wii) Nintendo, but there's just something about the people who exclusively or almost-exclusively care about nintendo stuff and act like nothing else even exists. You even see this in the modern era, where nintyfags will act like a game doesn't exist until it finally gets a switch port 10 years later and then suddenly it's the best thing ever, or they'll act like BotW is a super innovative game even though the open world meme had already been beaten to death by that point.
>>
>>12518092
topkek, no. "book-tok" is literally a bunch of foids who buy piles of books in order to fill shelves and take instagram photos for updoots without ever having the intention of ever reading them.

Books are really cheap to make and you can comission custom ones. There isn't an appeal to "purity" because most avid readers are womym anyways and they don't have strong hunter-gatherer impulses like men do. It isn't their ball game.

Mine is bigger. I mostly got stuff I intended to play (or weird novelties like Bible Adventures), and never sold the games I accumulated since I was a kid. I got a ton of used games I wanted throughout the 90s and 2000s. I'd also buy a ton of random games browsing stores back when old games got really cheap in the mid-2000s I went out.

Now my collection is worth tens of thousands, it's crazy how expensive things are now. I mostly play on flashcarts now, I still enjoy having the originals.
