>use a CRT it's more authentic for older games
NO!!!
One year of CRT use blasts you with the equivalent DEADLY radiation dose of living next to a NUCLEAR POWER PLANT for ELEVEN YEARS
I'll stick with my non-lethal shaders thank you
>>
>>12516818
But that is the equivalent of eating ten bananas...
>>
>>12516818
or in other words,
eating one banana per week is 5 times more lethal than using a CRT 24 hours a day
>>
Wait, what? I've been told that CRTs are more unhealthy than this. Was it a lie?
>>
Nigga, we've been using crts as a species for like 50 years and nothing bad happened, shut up
>>
how much radiation from plasma, lcd, and led?

It's apparently possible for certain CRT tubes to malfunction and start emitting xrays but I dont fully understand how it actually works. vintage TV collectors talk about it sometimes.
>>
>>12516818
based and health conscious pilled
>>
>>12516818
Modern CRTs made after the 1970's use a thick layer of lead glass and internal shielding to absorb most X-Rays, so how do you get that much? Sitting 10cm away from the screen and letting it collect radon daughters?

Nobody but 65 year old moms seem to ask this question.
>>
It's ok, I have a geiger counter
>>
>>12516821
So just stop eating bananas and it all balances out. Nice.
>>
>>12516818
Thanks to my continued usage of CRT TVs for regular entertainment use, I've mutated into a genetic freak and I'm no longer normal. I sent my X-Men application in and they told me they'll be sending an agent out soon for an interview.

My CRT has a 6 inch deep field of static electricity around the screen, is that bad?
>>
>>12516921
Lead glass front, check. I'm not so sure what you mean by internal shielding, though? You mean, inside the tube itself? That would interfere with the electric field, wouldn't it? Because most later CRT TV's are just a tube in a thin plastic case. PC monitors would often have EMF shielding, esp high-end ones, but that's not x-ray shielding.

>mom

first time on the internet I've ever been accused of ever having had sex
>>

This is true. It's why everyone born earlier than 25 years ago is dead now.
>>
>>12516925
>Blocks radiaton
Whew, I need to calm myself.
-Radiation encompasses any wave emissions. Light, heat, and sound are all radiation. If you can hear or see someone, they are irradiating you.
>CRTs put out x rays. Xrays are ionizing radiation (bad) but are not *nuclear* radiation
>CRTs are shielded and used to be everywhere.
I fucking hated CRTs but let's not bullshit here.
>>
>>12516818
Now post the rest of the chart, I know you saw it in the thread on /v/ yesterday.
>>
When I was a kid, I used to play N64 while my face was only about 20 inches from my CRT, like in pic related. I would play LoZ OoT for hours at a time. I'm now in my 30's and I've never had any kind of cancer. But I did have to start wearing glasses when I was 16 due to rapidly developing bad myopia. I used computers all day throughout my teen years though, so that might have caused the myopia.

Is there anything zoomers aren't scared of? even fucking wallpaper makes them shit their pants

What's so hard about understanding that i don't want a source of IONIZING XRAY RADIATION in my home?
I don't care how shielded it is. I don't want 000000.1 rads or whatever, I WANT *ZERO*
My nice IPS LCD does not have this problem.
Also why are you people assuming that after 30+ years the shielding isnt breaking down/wearing away? I
>>
>>12517470
>I
Looks like the LCD radiation got you. RIP anon
>>
>>12517470
Bad news, the sun is constantly hurling ionizing radiation at earth.
>>
>>12516879
The tube can emit xrays if the voltage gets too high. There's a special circuit to shut down the TV if it happens. It still makes a couple randomly because of quantum but it's not anything to worry about, especially with shielding in the tube.

Bullshit, the xrays are constantly detectable anytime the tube is on and firing meaning some still passed through the shielding.
I already have microplaatics in my balls from my game collection and electronics off-gassingband breaking down.
I don't need a fucking radiation box in my bedroom frying them too.

Oh shit. I think this is why my mister has been bugging out.
I keep it on top of my CRT, maybe the x ray electricity field or whatever is messing up the gates in the FPGA.
Fuck I really hope the damage isnt permanentl
>>

>>12517118
here's the full section of that chart for anyone curious
>>
>>12517715
So an entire year of using a CRT is still just 1/8th of what we receive from background radiation in a single day. kek what a shitty thread.

This is why OLD computer nerds went bald in their 20s. They were surrounded by dozens of CRTs all day.
>>

>airplane
Oh god, thanks for reminding me about this
At high altitudes, the radiation dose is not negligible. Everyone on board the plane should be wearing a lead suit. Yet, nobody cares.
>>
>>12517735
That's a 15 year old boy right there. But the CRT radiation rapidly aged his body.

I don't eat bananas for this reason. Also all the bugs that live in them.
Anyway I don't see a single reason to use a CRT for gaming in the current year
>additive radiation that builds up in your body over time
>the xrays ruin nearby electronics
>the earrape 15khz whine
>burn in
>mice and small creatures live in them
Yup, IPS LCD all the way for me. We have some excellent shaders now.

lol flying is the worst? Yea I’ll keep my crt and just not fly anywhere, especially w all the vaccinated pilots who just so happen to may have an unrelated heart attack midair because of also unrelated blood clots

Who the fuck eats bananas? Are you a monkey or something?
CRTs are worth the radiation for me imo
