ITT: Melancholy games or ones that evoke a melancholy feel in you.

I think this was the first game to ever make me feel somber
>everything you know, everything around you, will eventually be gone
>people hundreds or thousands of years from now will live completely different lives from you
>even as massive disasters hit and civilizations fall, people will keep surviving

The ending where Crono and Marle float away in an embrace was the first time I ever felt "TFW no GF" feelings. It was painful and I never watched this ending again.

All the heaven and earth games have this feeling. It's great. Wish other developers captured the "we're at the mercy of evolutionary destiny" themes as well.

I don't think that level of introspection was really ever intended. I mean you might as well feel sad any time you look at a history book and bemoan the fact that you never got to hang out with Scipio Africanus.

Jesus christ can you make one post without dragging your dumb fucking mental illnesses into it.
It's not hard to get a girlfriend, christ. Fucking manchildren.

Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma maybe, but Soul Blazer always felt triumphant to me. You're an archangel going down to slay demons and save people's souls. God is good. Satan is evil, but he gets his shit pushed in. I guess that kid who died on the pirate ship was kinda sad, but he got reincarnated as a sexy mermaid's pet dolphin. So that worked out alright in the end.

SB is about a world that has been empty for eons because its king sacrificed all living beings to the devil. You start rebuilding it and the first things you rescue are a lonely little flower with a tiny voice, and an old woman without children who asks if you'll pretend to be her son. The hell it isn't melancholic.

I beat soul blazer and I don't remember this

I was 12, to be fair.

Not to mention the little dwarf people with short lifespans, Dr. Leo sacrificing himself right in front of his daughter, Lisa's loneliness in the ending etc...

The original Dragon Quest.
It's just you on a perilous journey, no party members. A lonely adventure full of riddles and "coming of age" moments.
The overworld map theme also has a really bittersweet melody that evokes melancholic, nostalgic feelings, unlike later DQ games where the worldmap was more adventurous and in high spirits.
Well, the overworld theme in DQ2 when you're alone, before Talint joins, is also melancholic and evocative, but then once you get party members the new theme feels more like saturday morning cartoon (in a great way)

>"Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one" - Crono T. Rigger
Damn...

any of the Seiken Densetsu games, as they all deal with a cycle of cataclysm of some kind from which basically all that is known will die and almost nothing will remain and will endlessly repeat.

didn't really get this feeling until DQ7. That long ass intro and the isolation of the small island life really helped lay the lonesome narrative going for the rest of the game.

Mystic Quest/Final Fantasy Adventure.
From the start to the very end, it's nothing but melancholy. Even the intro music makes me sad.

This and Project Titan are the only games I ever saw my father playing.

My dad played NES games with me but lost interest after a few years and kind of grew to loathe video games due to my near obsession with them.
One night he saw me playing a rental copy of Final Fight 3. Then he did something surprising. He asked if he could join. We beat the game together and had a ton of fun. I was 12 but felt like a 6 year old again playing games with my dad. It was the last time he ever played a game with me. I don't think I'll ever forget that.

Only the original title, not the rest of the series
>original homeworld is destroyed
>main hubworld is a town made out of destroyed worlds and is populated by survivors of those worlds
>you travel along with Donald Duck and Goofy (which should make it happy kid time) yet the game manages to state it several times that you're not friends and just fight common enemy while pursuing your own goals
>the fucking Winnie the Pooh world starts with the bear having existentional crisis
>game follows classic Disney movie structure but you rarely get fun time and instead you have to deal with some shit and the outcome of every world is never "good guys won in only good way and achieved all of their goals" - you get fucked one way or another
>last two worlds are FF tier of last dungeons in terms of visuals
>at the end of the game pretty much everyone forgets about MC, his best friend is stuck in limbo and he' separated from his love interest

Fuck, forgot the image, but I was talking about original Kingdom Hearts
Another game to mention is Odin Sphere - the entire game leads to Armageddon and pretty much everyone dies
