Just finished Onimusha 2 on Hard. First tried Nobunaga both phases but only because I had been saving all my consumables. That was such a wild spongey difficulty spike. I imagine many got soft locked if they showed up without heals. And just like DMC1 it's a weird instance where the final boss is completely different gimmick gameplay instead of testing if you've mastered the game, even phase 1 is weird because he's always in the air so you have to rely on the rifle.

Game is a lot of fun but kind of a mess. Love gorgeous fixed angle aesthetics but camera often frustrates in combat. Allies/gift system is nonsensical and adds needless grindy padding. Gold economy and merchant become pointless after a couple hours. Playable allies are cool (esp. rifle one) but cryptic triggers and missable branching paths are just artificial replay incentive and guide bs. Puzzles are decent but it's always the same template recycled. Overall vibe is a lot more goofy sentai than horror/medieval RE like the first one.

Thoughts on Onimusha 2 and 3? And the series as a whole. Might play 3 next.

Yep the game is very fun on hard until the final boss. I feel bad for anyone that hasn't saved up restoratives for it. Also Oni2 is my favorite in the series. I'm a minority tho. Everyone loves Onimusha 3 the most.

How well does Genma run on xemu?

Not enjoying 3's tone and pacing much, the constant switching. Story is lame and charmless, a fucking Navi knockoff? Some severely dull environments and enemies like blobs in sewers. It's all over the place. Doesn't feel like an adventure, but outside of bosses the action against mobs feels meh. Samanosuke is more fun to play than Jacques but his level design is worse.

Recently played onimusha for the first time. A little rough around the edges but still a very fun experience to play through. Im looking forward to playing 2 and 3

DoD is a excellent game. Loved the callbacks to Onimusha 2 it had.
