Why was redrawing Mega Man's, and ONLY Mega Man's, sprite so common back in the day?
What?
because his sprite is iconic. next question
>>12519209>>12519213Low IQ replies>>12519201Because the people who do these artstyle recreations do not have fundemental art skills. They don't know what makes a style. They think they can just reskin the protagonist. It's similar to how people make "X in Powerpuff Girls Style" but they just copy the main 3 girls.
It's a simple humanoid 3/4 angle pose. Other 'normie' retro games don't usually have the proper balance of angle and detail to make it easy.
>>12519201Wait, you're telling me sprite animators were lazy?
>>12519201All the ones on the bottom look objectively better. More unified style.

Is this like a webcomic thing? I don't remember seeing the bottom sprites
>>12519201Don't know what webcomics you were reading, but all I saw in the early 2000s straight up used the original sprite rips. Everybody was trying to be the next Bob & George.
I feel you OP. Just artists being lazy
>>12521940Why did they make Sagat small
>>12519201Because it's the most basic to edit. Just a generic head and body without any weird shapes to consider, makes the sprite an easy template.
>>12521871>sprite comics...I remember...
>>12521559Counterpoint: a drawing of a character or person as if they were a Powerpuff/Rowdyruff will elicit a stronger reaction than if they were drawn in the more general Powerpuff style, which could prompt some artists to go that route. Like if your average millennial woman asked somebody to draw her in the Powerpuff style, she'd probably think you misunderstood her if she were presented with anything other than a woman with a bug-eyed, pill-shaped head.
