This was considered THE killer app for the Xbox in 2002.
>>12519748No wonder the Xbox always felt like the third wheel of the 6th gen
>>12519768It mogged all the other systems combined, especially PS2. Xbox was a generation ahead.
>>12519768I know, Super Mario Sunshine was a better killer app for the NGC.
>>12519748>One of the best games ever made was considered a killer appYeah no fucking shit.>hur dur halo sucksI know /vr/ gets itself off on being contrarion but you can give it up. It doesn't make you special, it makes you a faggot.
I don't think Zoomers will ever truly understand what a big deal Halo was for consoles. Before it what few shooters there were you walked through tight enclosed areas and shot enemies that blinked out of existence upon death and everything was a binary solution. Then Halo drops and enemies stay on the ground and even bleed more if you hit their bodies, huge wide open levels including vehicular combat and while the overall journey was linear multiple points let the player choose which problem on the levels map to combat first in any order they want. This simply did not happen on console shooters before.
>>12519748The weird thing is I grew up in Australia and turned 16 in 2002, but I don't remember the Xbox or Halo at all. Everybody seemed to have PC and/or PS2. I don't think I even saw an Xbox in real-life until circa 2017.
>>12520458>>12520312>Zoomers will never know what it feels like to have Johnson tell you that there are jackals in the courtyard, right before some fucker with a beam rifle snipes you from one of the buildings in the distance, so you end up hearing Johnson say this again and again until you locate that fucker.I know that one is from Halo 2 and not Halo 1, but I played a lot more of Halo 2. You're completely right though. Halo was the first shooter that was ACTUALLY good. I have a lot of nostalgia from Halo 2.
>>12519748no shit
When the kid down the street got an xbox on release week it was a big deal. Everyone around was in there, just watching them play halo, even my antisocial ass. It was a big deal. Normies who were getting to the age that "games are for kids" and the XBox was their way to play games without denting their egos.9/11 had happened and we were invading the middle east, and here's this cool space shooter that really captured a "warfare" feeling better than Bond, Quake, Doom, or MoH.I didn't even get it for years later, and was an "xbox hater" JRPG fan when it came out, but it was THE coolest thing around.
>>12520557>Everyone around was in there, just watching them play halo>H-Hey Mike, c-c-can I try out that new Halo game for a few minutes?>Fuck off you filthy, unwashed normie and bring me more mountain dew
>>12520567It was a different time.I don't even know if people hang out IRL anymore.
>>12519768Even though it wasn't one in terms of sales, I agree that it felt like one. The Gamecube and PS2 had better exclusives.
>>12519930>NGCIt was GCN you fucking zoomer poser.
>>12520482>Everybody seemed to have PC and/or PS2.Thats as third world as it possibly gets. Every country besides America was spiritually third world until the late 2000s when they caught up.
>>12520497>Halo was the first shooter that was ACTUALLY goodNo
>>12520759Which console shooter before controlled nearly as smoothly?
>>12519748This shit had me butthurt as a Sony kidUntil COD4 came out, I was SEETHING that Xbox had the halo series. And GOW.Looked so cool and fun. What did we have? Uncharted. Ratchet and clank. Killzone and resistance LOLHad fun with resistance online though tbqh
the thinking man's killer app
The drinking man's killer app
>>12521087Imagine preferring the console that gives you "AAAAHAHAHAHAHA" over the one that gives you all the based Halo action. Crash Bandicoot and Tekken were a lot of fun though.
