Basically how final fantasy is disconnected from each other, you could have other modern day setting locations based around the world, so instead of 90s suburbia USA, you travel around the equivalents of Europe or Japan or Eagleland, but its the 1800s. Far East of Eden is a good example of something it could be like.Of course a lot of that hinges on the input from Itoi himself and capturing the flavor he added, but i could see different directors tackling their own versions of a Mother style rpg as long as they respect the tone of the source material. As much as fans respect Itoi, i think their enjoyment of other aspects of the franchise supercede specifically his involvement. Would be like not playing a Mario just because Miyamoto didn't get involved. Of course it would likely suck if they milked it too much, but theres still plenty of gas in the tank for what could be done with it.

Everyone who genuinely likes and cares about this game is happy with the fan translation and whatever NOA would do to it in the process of localization is only going to hurt the game and its story overall. The bulk of the people who want the game to be released are normalfags who refuse to learn how to emulate properly and / or just want another video game "cause" to rally behind to feel like they're part of a group. As far as I'm concerned those kinds of people shouldn't even be allowed to know the game exists, much less be given a version made specifically for them so they can take a picture of the title screen on their Switch, post it to their preferred social media site, and then go back to not playing it.
