Why was Atari so worried about the 3D0 of all things instead of Nintendo or SEGA when they made the Jaguar? I don't remember anybody looking at the 3D0 or CD-I and bothering to give it the time of day compared to anything Nintendo, SEGA, or Atari worked on. I don't even remember commercials on TV for the 3D0 but I remember the "Do The Math" Jaguar commercials. The encryption key used for the Jaguar to copy-protect their games was literally the hex code "3D0DEAD" so clearly they seemed to have a grudge against the 3D0.
>>12521387I don't understand the justification for releasing the CD add-on after the abysmal failure of the Jaguar itself. Weren't there only like 10k units made?
>>12521493It was probably money laundering, everything the Tramiel's touched is shady as fuck.
>>12521387because they wanted to be some multimedia company as much as the 3DO company wanted to, and grow beyond traditional gaming (see Apple Pippin, Phillips CDI...).the beginning of the CD-rom era was a pretty blurry road still and nobody really knew in which fashion the technology would end up shaping the market. the people who were managing these companies were high on tech futurism propaganda directed at aging investors, just like with the cloud gaming banana peel, the VR fiasco and the current AI scam bubble in company management.believe it or not but the Atari Jaguar had a VR headset already but this industry never learns. even Sega kinda fell for it up until the death of its console department. these Mega Drive add-ons were the result of the same insecurity.i love my Dreamcast as much as the next guy but you just know it was born around desk job coffee machine culture of the 90's.Sony and Microsoft were a bit soulless as gaming companies but they were pragmatic for a bit. thankfully for its fans, Nintendo kinda failed upwards
>>12521698(((Tramiel))) was sleazy as fuck and would deliberately wait as long as legally possible to pay people. At that point it's not really advantageous to your business, you're just a cunt to everyone you do business with.
>>12521493They had a long term contract with IBM.
