I love Final Fantasy VI and this part. You just have to give one or two of your strong party members to each group. As long as you have a good group protecting Banon you're fine too, dying just sends you to the save point spot.

Tons of multiple-party bosses and multiple-party dungeons, character setups in that series are complex, with a lot of equipment involved, and you cannot set presets, you have to equip each part manually. Once Edgar gets Flash, Drill, and Chainsaw, he's very close to Sabin in damage while being tankier due to having better equipment, so he's arguably better in the WoB (unless you manage to get Air Blade before the FC, in which case Sabin rapes everything and everyone).Now yes, once you reach the WoR, Sabin becomes fucking ridiculous very early on due to having almost immediate free access to one of the game's fuck-you-I-win abilities, and at that point he does hard carry for a while, but not long after that, if you know what you're doing, you can obtain Fixed Dice + Offering, which is potentially just as good if not better, and once you obtain a Merit Award and Snow Muffler, Gau is just on another level of insanity. Even Shadow is capable of similar damage to Sabin by hitting elemental weaknesses with Throw at quite modest levels, or even with just Falchions after a bit of leveling. No grinding for Ultima or Economizers needed.Really, Sabin is only special in that, in a game full of broken shit, he's the fastest and easiest character to get to broken status, not requiring any work or equipment combos for it. You just go visit Duncan and that's it, and from that point on you just have to be on top of his Magic stat boosts. But other characters catch up or eclipse him soon enough.
