What was owning an OG Xbox during it's prime like? Is it worth (re)visiting if I have no ties to it?
>>
cool
yeah

There's nothing on the xbox worthwhile that hasn't released elsewhere in better quality. It's a western slop console.
>>
>>12522927
Only normalfags played games with it. Everyone else modded it and used it as a cheap multimedia center.

This might be the best way to explore any console library. Xbox experience in 2026 stands out, its been doing the hard drive/loader thing for 20 years and all the software for it is really mature and seamless. If you're into modding you'll have a great time.

Because you probably aren't familiar with the games you'll have a lot of fun discovering what some of your favorite developers put out on there, and the games you are familiar with you'll be pleasantly surprised by the differences Xbox versions have.

I was into Xbox when it was new, never successfully convinced mom to pay for Live but they were giving out free trials all the time so getting two months for free happened often enough for me to play lots of things like rainbow six 3 and counter-strike and nsfu2. Everyone had a mic so everyone was talking, you'd play with the same people over and over and talk shit and feel the pressure when there's only one guy left alive on your side and he clutches a victory. The games always felt more premium, and in a lot of ways they were. Every game was obviously sharper visually, even over composite.
>>
Phantom Crash is my favourite OG Xbox game.

Kung Fu Chaos is fun with friends
>>
Most of its best games are on pc or bc on newer xbox.
>>
having the most powerful console made you the cool guy at the school yard

There were a ton of good games. Kotor 1 and 2, Morrowind, Halo 1 and 2, Battlefront 2, Battlefield Modern Combat, Clone Wars, Spyhunter 2, Nightfire (which has it's best version only on the Xbox to this day), the Dark Alliance games, Ninja Gaiden Black, Dead or Alive 3, Gemma Onimusha, Doom 3, Fatal Frame 1 and 2, all three of the good GTA games, the Need For Speed games, Lego Star Wars, Republic Commando, Jedi Knight and Academy, Soulcalibur 2, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and Rainbow Six. Had them all and they were great, and a few are still best on the Xbox today.

On what systems can I play Ninja Gaiden Black, Jet Set Radio Future, Dead or Alive 3 and Panzer Dragoon Orta?
>>
>>12522927
you're supposed to use it to emulate non-xbox games and then play the PC ports of whatever was on the xbox
>>
>>12522927
It's a very "you had to be there" console. The main reasons to get it were multiplayer games, it's Xbox Live which isn't around anymore, cut-down ports of PC games for people who couldn't afford gaming PCs at the time, and FPS which i would never recommend playing on a console with a gamepad.
It doesn't have a lot in the way of strong singleplayer experiences compared to PS2 and Gamecube.

also the best way to play the original Splinter Cell games
>>
At the time it was better than PS2 simple because the online infrastructure was so ahead of its time. I spent my hours playing
Conker: Live and Reloaded
Halo 2
Crimson Skies
Battlefront 1 & 2
Pariah
Far Cry
Counter Strike
Rainbow Six
Splinter cell Pandora Tommorow & Chaos Theory the most
>>
>>12522927
It was a powerhouse of a console but unfortunately only had a handful of worthwhile games

Don't forget about Forza Motorsport. Arguably much better than everything that came after, except maybe FM4.

yes, the game was way ahead of its time

It was a windows XP emulator machine. 99% of the games were better on PC.

The og Xbox is still the best way to play the original Splinter Cell trilogy, even when compared to the PC.

The PC version of Crimson Skies is completely different from the Xbox version.

It also has the best version of several games, including Timesplitters.

No, it's not

Worth revisiting for Jet Set Radio Future and Kung Fu Chaos. Great games that aren’t backwards compatible with the Series X consoles. iirc you can play them on a 360 though.
>>
>>12522927
It's a cool console, definitely the best way to play the old multiplatform games since it had better specs and it could even output a lot of them in progressive scan or even HD (in some cases). Finding one that's not ruined by a leaking clock capacitor is a little bit of a nail biter though.

Better multiplats when you got them, but sucked because it didn’t have any of the AAA titles from Japan or when it did, you got one game in the series. Xbox live was a killer though; lot of Halo 2 played on that thing

it was fucking awesome. it felt like space tech for me as a 10 year old. xbox live peaked during this time as well. you had to be there. and yes its worth revisiting, pick up a modded console with a 2 tb fully stacked HDD, or do it yourself.

it takes a special kind of lunatic to keep pushing this nonsense lol, oh well im happy you fags stay to your trash. ogx community is kino.

Well with that question you sent me back to 2003, I bought my Xbox like many for Halo 2, I had Halo 1 on PC but I heard it was an exclusive so I bought the halo 2 xbox bundled together.
It was for me even if I was a dumb 12yo it was like the Grown up console, I had a PS1 before, then tried the ps2 from friends houses I was the only one in my group with a Xbox, but it was nice having friends at home and playing with 3 controllers (I had 3) and Halo 2 was the perfect deathmatch game the ps2 had nothing like it(that I knew at the time). We had a PC at home with a Pentium 3 but some games lagged behind while the Port were perfect, I remember that me and my brother bought the steam copy of half Life 2 but it was running like shit, one day at a second hand store we found a copy of half Life 2 at 10$ so we bought it and my first time with half life was infact the Xbox.
It was extremely fun to play with firends.
I took out from the storage my old xbox, changed the thermal paste the Clock capacitor was still intact (I have the cursed 1.6 xbox) I have to buy a new capacitor because everyone here keep saying that even if it's still normal the capacitor is a clicking time bomb and for now I can't change it so I have to keep it like this and keep rolling the dice while replaying Halo 1 Halo 2 and Doom 3.

The subject here is 6th gen, buddy
The PS2 reigns when it comes to amount of games running at 60 fps.
There are no excuses.
