Why did we stop using CRT monitors and TVs?
>>12523734They're bulky and heavy and the image quality is shit.
>>12523734>bot thread made with an image that was posted 6 minutes ago
people wanted bigger screens and the weight was getting ridiculous. big screens don't matter to retro gamers because it's all low resolution anyways
movies > video games

I've said my 2 cents many times.'80s, I grew up with CRTs and was a nerd obsessed with games and was programming daily at 11.CRTs literally made me cry. They'd make my eyes hurt and tear up. The static was uncomfortable. I could hear a CRT turn on from 3 rooms away, that screech drove me nuts as a kid.I think things look the same or better on flatscreens. I don't give a shit about muh CRT blurring, I can sedate myself for the same effect. And since I don't think they look better, I don't appreciate them taking up space.
>>12523771buy a blog, nerd
>>12523771>CRTs literally made me cry. They'd make my eyes hurt and tear up.>t. worm
>>12523771meanwhile, my ass would fall asleep to the comforting sound of static snow, loland I loved the *GWONG* sound they made starting up

>>12523785Seriously, does this not happen to you guys?I look at a CRT for 30 minutes and I start literally crying and getting eye pain. Always have. When LCDs came out I felt liberated; I could play all night.
>>12523771>I could hear a CRT turn on from 3 rooms away, that screech drove me nuts as a kidI also remember this as a kid. Whenever using a CRT television, there was always a loud, high-pitched droning noise that it would constantly emit. As an adult, I can still hear this sound, but it's not as loud nor intense.
CRTs have sigils embedded into them
>>12523823I just tried a youtube test of the sound on my garbage speakers. https://youtu.be/8XzNh5U8JzwI can still hear it at 37 and it made me almost fly into a fit of autistic rage.
>>12523771>CRTs literally made me cry. They'd make my eyes hurt and tear upIt was the low refresh rate on CRT TV's which was even worse if you're in a 50hz region. In the late 90's and early 2000's I'd spend most of my days using a CRT monitor that would 1024x768 at 85hz for a flicker free display. Then in the evenings I'd sit in front of a 50hz CRT TV and I could see the flicker and it was jarring.
>>12523734LCD displays became less expensive to manufacture and have the benefit of being incredibly inexpensive to ship compared to CRTs.
CRTs were great because when they broke, you could just use them as a table from then on. A crappy table, because they usually angle downwards at the back. But a table nonetheless.
>>12523734They're heavy and take up a lot of space for the screen size you get. Plus, most CRTs don't perform well at high resolutions. They're great for low-res video games though.
Has anyone else ever noticed how the colours on CRTs tend to be brighter and more vibrant? The resolution is undeniably lower and the image looks less sharp. But it also looks more colourful.I've noticed this a lot when playing my N64. OoT looks more "bright and cheery" on a CRT than on an LCD or LED. Hyrule field looks great on my old CRT. But it looks more "sharp and crisp" on LCD/LED. You can also see finer details more easily on LCD and LED.
>>12523874That's what CRTs excel at.
>>12523734>>12523736CRTs should've stayed mainstream except for practical purposes such as schools and workplaces until the late 2010's
>>12523887>>12523879>>12523862you're supposed to putted the apostrophe after crt to imply there is multiple - crt's
>>12523820CRT make you sentimental.LCD are for work, so of course you feel nothing looking at them.
>>12523895>CRT make you sentimental. They do not. The games make me sentimental.
>>12523734You have asked this question and received the same answers multiple times Sometimes I really think this board needs to go if the same threads are gonna be recycled over and over
>superior for any general purpose information task>more practical to translate theatrical formatsthese two factors handed it both the consumer and professional industries. motion clarity and contrast ratio couldn't compete with those advantages.
>>12523874>Has anyone else ever noticed how the colours on CRTs tend to be brighter and more vibrant? No. Get a modern TV instead of the cheapest Vizio you could find at Walmart.I've used many CRTs over the years for retro gaming and even had a Trinitron I got from a family who was moving in the early 2010s who didn't want to lug the heavy ass thing out of their basement and haul it to their new place. I got it for $100 and had to bring a friend to pick it up. I used it for 8 years and then sold it again when I moved because I wasn't going to have anywhere to put it in my new place. By that time modern flat screen TVs were way brighter and had far better color than that Sony TV ever had.
>>12523820You have a disability. Its sad that some people have their experiences limited. Just like how some people are color blind, or have 20/200 vision. You have flicker intolerance. Which means you can never experience the motion clarity of the CRT.
>>12523820I find them a bit harsher than LCDs I guess, maybe because of frame rate differences? But otherwise no. I grew up on CRTs and I still prefer them for things that were made for them and that don't require high resolution.
Because the disproportion between screen size and content output resolution became lower and lower.
>>12523972I still was a nerd who used games as a form of escapism. I was always in front of a CRT as a kid. It wasn't like they made me tweak out or anything but they definitely made me cry and made my eyes itchy. I have no idea why. My parents were rich as fuck and we had the fanciest TVs and monitors. But once we switched to LCD I felt so happy. I could look at them all day long, as I've done today, and feel no issues. 20/15 vision, not remotely epileptic, at 37 so idk man.
>>12523887I had one until 2013, then stopped watching tv completely.
>>12523734Idiots always choose form over function.
>>12523771>CRTs literally made me cryThis is what low testosterone does to a man.
>>12523734Majority of use cases (outside of /vr/), flat panels just make more sense, for both the manufacturer and end user.
>>12524081you just copied that from >>>/g/108650866
>>12524083That *is* my post on /g/.
>>12523771I feel the same basically, especially regarding the noise. Bonus points for the static shock it'd give you if you dared get too close to the screen. It's pretty easy to replicate the CRT look on any LCD by reducing the gamma and adding a blur filter, but that probably doesn't matter to most people interested in CRTs now because they want an "authentic" experience on "real" hardware that people used back in the day.
>another CRT opinion bait threadDoes there need to be three of these on a retro games basket weaving board at one time?Let it die like the CRTs.
>>12523820>a CRT for 30 minutes and I start literally crying and getting eye paini am not an eye pussy. first time i heard this lulzsecks tier of pussy shit.
>>12523771>I could hear a CRT turn on from 3 rooms away, that screech drove me nuts as a kid.this is peak autistical screeching.
>>12524084>>12524083>>12524081smells like bots. 4chins isn't real anymore.
>>12524003As I said, its a very specific type of disability. In some cases the problem is esoteric rather than physical. Everyone goes through a some level of discomfort when being cleansed by the holy light of the CRT. Personally, it took me decades to reach a state of purity. In my current state of grace I can't even see the flicker anymore. Maybe you have something nasty attached to your soul. Might want to get that checked out.
>>12524003Because you didn't blink when watching the TVThat's literally it
>>12523734I didn't. I guess im just built different
>>12523826do different CRT have different sigil ?i want to know what CRT have good sigil.
>>12523835wow. i don't remember hearing something like that at all. maybe it's because i live in a PAL region. but this felt really disgusting.
>>12524957Doesn't explain how I can stare at an LCD (LED plasma whatever) in a similar way for hours upon end with no issue. I've been known to do 24+ hr gaming sessions. 30 min in front of a CRT has always made my eyes water and itch. I thought that was normal. I just dealt with it as a kid but I noticed the difference immediately when we switched to LCD.
Because we regressed as a civilization.
>>12523820It doesnt happen to me thankfully
>>12523734they were lighter, and have more sharpness and resolution. worse colors and light, but whatever. I hate that I dont have CRTs and all modern shit is in HD anyways, but I wish CRTs would make a mainstream comeback
