>tried teaching my grandmother yesterday how to play Crash Bandicoot 1
>she's 86
>never played a vidya since Pac-Man
>after a few hours she was able to get to the fourth level (the Boulder Chase one) but couldn't get past that
Why are old people such shit at video games bros. She doesn't have dementia, she's as lucid as can be, so she doesn't have that as an excuse.

Your body starts to betray you as you age. Mentally, for the most part, you're still young but trapped in a body that doesn't react as quick as your thoughts anymore. One day you'll also suck because the meatsack housing you will fail.

I had the same experience decades ago, trying to teach my dad to play Crash 2.
There's a certain kind of hand-eye coordination that generations that didn't grow up with videogames and/or computers lack. I think if you don't learn it when you're young it's much harder to train yourself on. I bet your grandmother kepy physically looking down at the controller to check which buttons she was pressing

>tried teaching my grandson yesterday how to knit socks
>he's 37
>never touched a ball of wool since elementary school
>after a few hours he only finished half a sock, and didn't even knit a nice pattern
Why are young people so shit at knitting, sisters? He doesn't have brain damage, he's as lucid as can be, so he doesn't have that as an excuse

The human brain loses neuro-plasticity as you age and that's what you need to learn new skills. A child's brain is very plastic (meaning that the neurons can form new synapses very easily) which is why children can learn a new skill very easily.

This is also why a lot of old people tend to be "stuck in their ways". Their brain physically can't restructure it's synapses to think in a different way, even when presented with new information about a topic that they have a pre-existing opinion on.

Coming from a family where pretty much none of my relatives played video games, I would have been happy to see any of them at least humor me and actually try. Find a better game for your grandma, OP. Even if it's something like fucking Family Feud or Thousand Arms.

Why start her on the hardest Crash game? Why not 3 or even 2?

This is bullshit. Please stop spreading misinformation. Even the elderly have a substantial amount of neuroplasticity.
