Sure it's more fantastical than the steampunk/dieselpunk/whateverthefuck the previous 3 FF games were...but it's not exactly reminiscent of old FF either. Was it marketed as a return to "fantasy" or is that just something millennial retards say because they didn't like 7 and 8?
>>12524981the other PS final fantasys were futuristic settings so it's a return to old FF in that sense
It was marketed that way in the west, can't speak for the JP marketing.
It was sort of a return to form, but that aspect is very overblown and I hear it more and more as time passes. It was its own FF game, not just some "send off" to a classic era.It was the first RPG I ever played and not knowing references didn't impact my enjoyment of it.
>>12524981FF9 was a remix of all of Sakaguchi's previous stuff. The Crystal: After being absent from the plot for several games, the Crystal returns as the source of all life and memories. This harks back to FFI through FFV. But also it incorporates a bunch of the themes from FF7's lifestream. Sakaguchi was obsessed with Gaia theory, it also made it into the spirits within.Kuja is a remix of Kefka.Zidane/Vivi being manufactured is very similar to Cloud/Sephiroth. They have the same "What am I?" questions Lots and lots of easter eggs to every game in the series. No other game has this many easter eggs. Jobs are fixed but are still a callback to 1-5. Most of the music is referential. Stylistically it's "dungeon punk" which is what FF1-5 are considered. FF6 is magipunk, FF7 is dieselpunk, and I dont even know wtf 8 is (it's not cyberpunk though, anyone who claims that is a fucking retard). 99% of NPCs are call backs to older games.
>>12526065Perhaps in Shartistan, but in PAL territories they assumed people could read and told you about the game, rather than quoting some subhuman games "journalist" on the cover. The Japanese cover doesn't herald it as some sort of backwards-looking entry either. Feels like that marketing push was something created specifically for dumb Americans, so that they weren't confused by why there were no SUVs and machine guns in this one.
>>12526786Was it really necessary to fill your post with so much seething jealousy?
>>12526751>nd I dont even know wtf 8 isOrderpunk, cleanpunk, tribaltattoopunk
>>12526786Ohio here. Can confirm. I kept waiting for the party to unlock the world map so I could finally get behind the wheel of a 1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition. I spent three hours grinding in Alexandria waiting for the party to unlock a vehicle with the 5.4L Triton V8 engine, select-shift 4WD, and the Medium Parchment leather interior with the machined aluminum wheels, but apparently, Square thinks I want to ride a yellow bird instead of enjoying 110 cubic feet of cargo space and a heavy-duty trailering package. How am I supposed to take a "fantasy" seriously if I can't utilize the illuminated running boards and the Mach Audio System to cross the Outer Continent? Absolute unplayable trash for anyone who actually values American engineering and a 30-gallon fuel tank.I took that shit back to gamestop and threw it at the cashier.
>>12526815>Hahahaha I'm owning this EUROPOOR with my witty sarcastic humor because it's totally not true that they market games with idiots in mind in the United St-ACK!
