Currently playing through EtD, it's definitely not great, but I find it hard to believe it was SO bad that it killed any mainstream interest in the series.
Compared to what came before, it's massively underwhelming, not to mention obviously rushed to hell and back. Maybe if you didn't play the others, it's okay.
