A great portion of the original Castlevania is based on the movie Vampire Hunter D. This includes the entire story: the fact that Dracula isn't 'just' a vampire lord but the lord of all demons and has all kinds of monsters as minions; which is unlike anything Dracula is about in western culture; but also a lot of the game structure such as fighting a feline demon in the entrance corridor of the castle, before falling down a trap chute, ending up in cave with water, before encountering Medusa.As for this pic, neither of these two things are from CV1; and while the devs did admit the VHD inspiration for some of the other games like SotN (the "bored vampire villain in his throne room" trope, or jumping through the barely open castle gate etc), they always pretended like that wasn't the case for CV1.
