Dragon Warrior VII, mostly because I DARE anybody to try that.
>>
What's the benefit of decomp instead of just emulating?
Most people don't want to play mods
>>
>>12526845
Decomp doesn't even do anything for non-Nintendo, non-Sonic titles because no one outside those fanbases has the autism required to make mods. Like there are several decomps out there that are literally pointless other than to provide easy access for tech illiterate zoomers who are scared of setting up an emulator and downloading roms.
>>
The original Spyro trilogy.
>>
>>12526867
I was pretty surprised that Driver 2 got one, but that's mainly because the original game had terrible frame rate and draw distance

>provide easy access for tech illiterate zoomers
Ironic because getting some old games running on PC is harder than emulating them
>>
>>12526845
NFS HP2 could benefit from a higher frame rate.
>>
>>12526867
If there was an Xbox or PC version of the PS2 game then I probably would say it's not worth decompiling. It's because the PS2 version of Hot Pursuit 2 was the only one worth playing that it might be good to decouple it from the platform (there's no example of what that version would look like running natively on better hardware).

Just emulate it and increase resolution as much as you like dude
>>
I actually wouldn't mind modding hp2 ps2 version. New cars, new tracks.
>>
>>12526836
NG2 is maybe the most interesting because the game is broken
/unfinished and could be fixed in a smarter way than what Sigma 2 tried to do. But really I just want NGB because it's the goat and I don't want to deal with Xemu's rendering artifacts and input lag anymore.
>>
Finally found the best NFS video game!
But I won't mention it's name because it's not retro enough I guess.
>>

>What's the benefit of decomp instead of just emulating?
A native port with potential for enhanced resolution, framerate, options in the port itself to enhance the game or mitigate certain issues, etc. Some would say it's sacrilege to play a game like Banjo-Kazooie at uncapped framerate with proper widescreen and stuff, but in terms of actually playing-playing the game it's a world of difference.
>>
>>12526867
>there are several decomps out there that are literally pointless other than to provide easy access for tech illiterate zoomers
name them
>>
>>12527228
>enhanced resolution
Early 3D made for CRT TVs @ 240p looks tasteless at super high resolutions.
>>
>>12527234
N-no!

Midnight Club 3
>>
>>12527228
A better example of sacrilege would be the Banjo-Kazooie recomp adding built-in note saving that's enabled by default. You usually have to spend $20 on a Nightdive remaster to get """QOL""" hacks that stupid and game ruining.
>>
>>12527331
Oh god anti Nightdive schizo is here

>Driver 2 got one
Big if true, considering up till now I've never met anyone else who has played Driver 2. Where did all these Driver 2 fans suddenly come from?
>>
>>12527539
That's already under way, isn't it? I thought they were trying to use the work done from GTA3's to explore the next two games.

Need for Speed
Need for Speed II
Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit
Need for Speed: High Stakes
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
I know there are patches/fixes that allow these to run on modern hardware, but decomps would be super nice

I cannot trust decompilation not to introduce some subtle inaccuracies. Sure, emulation via JIT is not perfect either but on an interpreter level it's just more reliable.

Would PS1 be harder or easier than N64 to make a recomp tool for?
I mean, N64 recomps already exist, but the PS1 is simpler hardware no?
>>
>>12527694
>Chronicles of Riddick
What for? Gog PC version works without issues (at least I didn't notice any when I played it).
>>
>>12527692
>subtle inaccuracies
Those can happen even on original hardware between console revisions.
>>
>>12527698
It's the other way around, games are easier to decompile the more abstraction layers they use. Games on older systems were developed closer to the metal instead of using SDK and libraries which makes it easier to translate calls to some library on your target platform. Ever seen a c++ decomp of a nes or a gameboy game? People just disassemble those.
>>
>>12526836
We live in a timeline where we can already play Hot Pursuit 2 and Midnight Club 3 Remix in 60 fps hor+ widescreen so I don't think I need to ask for any more.
>>
>>12527795
These are analog inaccuracies. I meant something like miscalculations that would affect the gameplay. Let's say a game was hardcoded to run under a certain resolution and changing it would fuck up some math.
>>
>>12526836
Pic-related easily.

>>12526845
Console exclusive FPS games like Goldeneye, TimeSplitters, Urban Chaos Riot Response, Darkwatch, some of the early CoD and Medal of Honor games, Killzone, and Black would all benefit significantly from being playable with mouse/keyboard, adjustable FOV and ultrawide, 144+ FPS, and online multiplayer.

Perfect Dark is a great example of a console exclusive FPS that really shines through its PC decomp sourceport.
>>
>>12527813
>miscalculations that would affect the gameplay
Those can also happen because of slight changes in hardware.
>>
>itt: /zg/ zoomer general
>>
>>12527793
The GOG version is the demaster, and while TCoRFix helps a lot with running the original version on modern PCs, you still can't enable shader mode 2.0++ soft shadows without introducing eyeshine flicker (TCoRFix has a 'workaround' for this you can enable but it removes some of the game's shadows, so don't).
>>
>>12527502
Not an argument faggot
>>
>>12527673
You know that Need for Speed games had different versions on PC from consoles right? Porsche Unleashed was the biggest example
>>
>>12527694
>Hitman
All the games are on PC and GOG, the first game is a PC exclusive
>>
How did no one say Burnout?
>>
>>12527987
Yes, I'm aware.
>>
>>12526845
uncapped resolution, framerate, aspect ratio, stuff like that

that is say, its completely pointless for anyone who actually enjoys retro gaming but some LARPing zooms will install them and play for 5 minutes to retrovibemaxx before moving on.
>>
>>12526836
Commander Keen, there is already one that has pretty good progress but I haven't seen anyone build it. Just to increase the frame rate and have per pixel scrolling in a native dos exe.

>>12527673
NFS 1 is interesting for DOS if you run it at 640x480.
NFS 2 has a special 3DFX demo which has a different graphical style from the full game.
It would be interesting to tweak them a bit.

>>12527692
It has to have some adaption or a translation layer because the way the N64 works is weird compared to PC but its a start for a full conversion.

Wipeout 2097 is what I desire.

Apparently you can make the windows version run on modern windows but it does require extensive black magic and blood sacrifices to get working.
