If you are not gaming on the original hardware, you are not having the retro experience.
BOYI DONE TOLD YAI am NOT buying no GOD DAMNED arcade PEE CEE BEEs, ya hear me?!
>>12527615You know what OP? You'll never have the retro experience no matter how hard you try because deep down inside you know you'll never be a kid again hardware be dammed.
>>12527615I agree, but I believe the hardware running the game software is actually the least important part of the retro experience.Rather, the room you play in, the chair, the ambient noise, the smells, and the people you play with make a far larger difference.
That's absolutely true
That seems to bother you more than it does me which is not at all
What if i emulate the feelings i had when originally playing them on hardware too?
>>12527615What if i'm nostalgic for emulating games when i was a kid, and now i'm just emulating them again??
These kind of threads are bizarre and only make sense in the mind of zoomers.Boomers like us grew up with original hardware, we played our games at the time, there was no need to qualify our enjoyment of the hobby to others; just because we sold the hardware (or it broke) doesn't mean we didn't get to experience those games, it doesn't mean that when we emulate them now, our previous experiences are fake. These worries can only come from the mind of people who missed out on the retro days and are trying to overcompensate now. It's like that other 4chan's obsession with proving you play... video games... on the video game boards? that you so often see around here. It's so weird that it's a preoccupation that can only come from a zoomer addicted to streaming who thinks playing video games is a herculean task, while playing video games is the normal for everyone else.Stop making shit threads to compensate for missing out on the good times. Learn to stop worrying and love the bomb.
>>12527615I care about having fun, not chasing a “retro experience.”
>>12527725I was already emulating games on ZSNES back in like 1999 (never had a SNES), so I already have nostalgia for that emulator.Which is part of why I still use it (the other reason is being too lazy to bother with another one).>>12528707Trufax.
>>12527615Nah, good luck with your ebay store but I don't need it.
It’s not about some gay nostalgic retro feeling, it because it’s better. Original hardware is superior to emulation.
>>12529310Only for lightgun games, as those can't be properly emulated. Anything else is perfect, throw on a filter if you have to.
>>12529379I seem to recall lightgun games being perfectly emulatable now in vr headsets.
>>12529380>VR headsetsVile.
>>12529379nah nah nah senpai. Emulators, even if you're lucky and they handle graphics properly, always cuck up the performance or handling of button inputs. It shits up the whole experience for me. I've played the console and know what it's supposed to feel like.Of course this only applies to consoles I care about. I'll emulate the fuck out of some Sega CD, but I'll never settle for Duckstation (violent puking noises)
>>12527618I hear yee. No sleep for those whom hoard pee cee bees.
>>12527615If you are gaymeng on the original hardware, you are playing super fast games at incredible hihg speed
>if you dont play it as awfully as I had to, it doesn-doesnt count! why would I want to be as miserable as you?
Some stuff like the Atari 2600 just doesn't work emulated, only the actual console+CRT TV gives you the proper "experience."
>>12527615>>12525128I feel a lot of the shitting on ZX Spectrum games here is from people who've only played them on emulation.
>>12529472the last time you emulated anything was 15 years ago or something right
>>12529472nah emulators for 99.99% of games now are really accurate, basically perfect, minus a few arcade exceptions, in fact some perform better than original hardware and aren't allowed in speedrun competitions, since they have lower input lag, etc
>>12529574No, I emulated some NES earlier this week. Not even “good” emulation, just Retroarch running on my PS2.>>12529576>some perform better than originalThis means worse. What you think is better is worse. Also you’re wrong.
I got 3rd party wireless SNES controllers so when my steam deck is docked I can relax on my couch and enjoy some older games (nes, snes, gb, gba) in style, it’s very enjoyable. I did get a 3rd party n64 controller but I can’t reconfigure the buttons correctly unfortunately, primarily remapping the start button to something other than the “home” button. My next steps will be to buy a hdmi to avi converter and finding a nice crt from a local thrift shop. I’m a boomer though and emulation itself doesn’t ruin the experience at all that’s just zoomer talk. It’s funny the little things you misremember or forgot from the 90s…
>>12529472lol>>12529574Closer to 20, depending on what you're emulating.>>12529623lmao
>>12529623>Emulation sucks because no one gives a fuck about writing software for my 300Mhz MIPS machine from the Clinton presidency
>>12529883It’s just an example to show I’m not scared of emulation. I just don’t go around pretending it can match the real thing
>>12527725This.I'm very nostalgic about 2000's Gens.
>>12530241Retard
>>12530241>I only emulate in the most shit and antiquated oddball manners imaginable, but I feel that I have a good grasp on how emulation is like with hardware over 20 years newer than what I use
>>12530501I still use shit-ass old VisualBoyAdvance, to the disgust of my romhacking friend.
>>12527615The retro experience is physically impossible to attain as it requires you to go back in time physically. Even if you somehow manage to do this you are still in the present and therefore must do it again, but unsurprisingly you'll again be in the present. There truly is no time, but the present.
