Were the older kids at the arcade mean to you?
I was the older kid
The arcades at the malls, the operators looked out for the younger kids. The only arcade I saw bullying in was this one on the edge of downtown, and that was because of the indians (feather type, niches). Also a confectionery by my cousins house who lived on the edge of the hood, they had a game room with 5 machines in the back.>16 year old cree, who was told his entire life he was both a victim and a warrior>"ahhnnnn white kid! you took our laaaand!" >punches a 12 year old>takes the quarters sitting on the bezelIt was never worse than that. Just go as a group with a few friends and you were not bothered.
>>12527824No. I only went to an arcade once as a kid and I just beat some older dudes at MK4, then another guy told me he left some credits in a shmup so I just left to play that. Everybody was pretty nice.
>>12527824I'm 30I did not have arcades
>>12527824No. I never went to any arcade that had even that much community or local culture. You went in, you played your games, you spent your tickets (if any) on garbage, you left. Beyond the people you came in with (if any), you did not interact with other customers any way.
>>12527859>you did not interact with other customers any way.IN any way, I meant. Also I'm 45 for reference
>>12527859>>12527860this,i think i casually talked to someone i didnt know once because we played a game of soul calibur and he gave me some tips.
>>12527824nope. arcades were chilly places.
>>12527824I never went to an arcade. I didn't have a childhood
>>12527824Arcades and pinballs were on their way out by the time I was old enough to play them, and also they require gambling licenses to operate in my fag country, so they were hard to find.>>1252785833, and almost the same. There were arcade games (and slot machines nobody checked your age on), on some ferries, and also arcade games at an amusement park, but it was a very rare occurrence to find anything.
>>12527824maybe it's because it was at the tail end of the arcade thing, but the only kids who went to the arcade were rich kids who could aford to waste money on expensive videogames instead of staying home and playing burned cds on their modded playstationsso they were usually nerdy rich kids. not the most aggressive demographic, I supposeso no
>>12527824Nah, never had a problem with them.
no, kids weren't allowed in arcades in my country
i have a few memories of getting pushed (or having your hands pushed off the controls) but it was mostly fine. i was also extremely small in the heyday (early to mid 90s for me) so i was an easy target
>>12528756I had never heard of a modded Playstation until this site, but you guys act like everyone had one
>>12527858I'm 30 as well, and I've had the arcade experience.
During my childhood? NopeDuring my Adult years? YupUntil about 5 years ago my parents lived 5-10 minutes from galloping ghost arcade in Illinois, and whenever the family was there to visit my brother and I would get smashed and go play. I'm shit at games but because they're all set to freeplay and because we typically went during daytime casual hours there wasn't the aura of seriousness you sometimes see.
>>12527824>>12527858I'm 35.I did not have arcades either. Went to my first arcade about 2 years ago.The younger kids were mean to me.
nowhenever my dad took me we were like the only patrons
>>12527858im 30 and there were still lots of arcades in my area. big arcade at the mall had mvc2, bowling alley had tekken 3. All that’s gone now, but arcadekino used to just be hanging out in the wild like no big deal.
>>12527858I'm 29 and I played a lot on arcades
>>1252785831 and pretty much.Only went to a weeb arcade cafe in my 20s.
>>12528846>kids weren't allowed in arcades in my countryWhy not?
>>12527824there was one nerdy older kid who would just stand around waiting for someone to play Street Fighter 2 or some othe fightan game, then challenge them and beat them. otherwise no.
>>12527824Yes.
>>12528739>33,you mean like when you were 10 yrs old in 2003? i can imagine. 2000s was when LAN shop gaming really kicked off in my city. suddenly arcades seems like such a rip off. some arcades still survived due to some autists who still love playing fightans and driving games at the arcade though.
>>12528872>like everyone had oneeveryone who bought one had them modded AFAIK. mostly cause that was the only way to play both USA and based nippon games. there was no localised PSX consoles in my region. you either had to buy the USA one or the Jaypee one. of cose, modding them also meant they can play pirated CDs without any issues.
>>12527824I remember some times of terror, but not with clarity. Probably because I was begging, which is justified.
>bullying in an arcadeNever heard of such a phenomenon in my entire life. Do third worlders actually have to deal with this?
>>12529306The sleazy arcades died out by the late 80s as police essentially shut down the problem ones by enforcing curfews for under 18, and to crack down on underage smoking and soft drugs associated with them. Im in canada and the first time I was ever asked to buy weed from a stranger was while leaving an arcade at age 14 (which makes no sense, as what kid still had money after leaving an arcade)? People under 40 likely only ever saw the safe mall arcades, chucky cheese, or the ones attached to movie theaters and laser tag. These were not real arcades.
>>12529306>Do third worlders actually have to deal with this?every instance i read about arcade bullying happened in the olde USA. i am not american/canadian.in my cunt, crimes and bullying happened mostly in schools and "normie" places like restaurants, pubs and sports stadiums.
>>12529221Younger than that, they were very difficult to find at the age of like 7, I was amazed to see a pair of racing cabinets at a mall once. I remember I played Time Crisis cabinets on a ferry when I was 7 or 8 or so, and I thought it was cool as fuck because the guns had motorized parts and all, but it would take many years until I saw another such cabinet.Part of this rarity likely owes to said gambling laws though, so it was probably a much faster death here than other places, as it would have made the profit margins thinner already.>>12528872It wasn't universal in my experience, but it was quite common, a fair few kids at school would talk about having chipped consoles for playing pirated games. Not nerdy kids either, far from it.>>12529314>(which makes no sense, as what kid still had money after leaving an arcade)Probably dipped into his own supply.>mall arcades>or the ones attached to movie theaters and laser tag>These were not real arcades. They sound like they'd still be fun though.
