Do you enjoy old ass RPGs that feel like closer to computer-assisted role-playing rather than straight up video games?
>>12528963I don't know what the fuck do you mean, phantasy star or any DQ clone for that matter don't have any "computer assisted role playing" which is fine because role playing was always the gayest part of the DnD table top games. No I like RPGs that are videogames and you get to explore worlds and grow stronger, I couldn't care less about picking the 10 intelligence dualogue choice about how much of a smart redditor my character is just to skip battles (actual gameplay)
>>12528963Phantasy Star is a hell of a lot closer to modern video game RPGs than shit like the SSI Gold Box games
>>12528982based...so heckin zased...
>>12528963a lot of the systems aren't very fun and the combat/encounter design isn't deep enough to last so many hours
>>12528963>Do you enjoy old ass RPGsNope. Not even in the>this is garbage but it's like retro garbage so it's coolway.
>>12528963yeah they're pretty neat. I like having the classic D&D experience without the jank of western rpg slop
>Command Pending: Magic Spell...
>>12528982I bet you use return instead of walking back to the castle in DQ1, fucking gameplay skipper.
>>12530073>wtf why are you engaging with the game's mechanics!?!?And I buy warpwings before learning Return
>>12528963Tbh picking a random old JRPG and forcing yourself to keep playing until it clicks is one of the best ways to detox.
>>12528963PS has no role-playing. Role-playing playing is acting. You need another human to do it with. Or if you accept primitive versions ultimately style text passers, TES level npc modular behavior, or dislogue trees.I think what you like dungeon crawling and maybe a certain aestetic.
>>12528963Sure.Console ones are fine, but I recommend trying out NetHack and Angband.>>12528982Role-playing in RPG means simulating a role of someone else via stats and calculations. He probably means non-action RPGs. >>12531848>Role-playing playing is actingYou're confusing tabletop RPGs with LARPing. CRPGs obviously an offshoot of the former.
>>12528963My ears were ringing after hours upon hours of that atrocious PSG sound. That's on me for not wanting to playing the retranslation.
Old school video RPGs like Phantasy Star and DQ are less role-playing, and more like survival fantasy games, where the most important part is to manage limited resources while you make your characters grow. They're cool, much better than the shitty glossy spectacle of DND5e's superhero sims, like Baldur's Gate 3.
95% of rpgs i play are on snes or ps1. ive dabbled a bit with nes rpgs (mother 1 is the only one ive finished i think) and some older computer games.
>>12531987>You're confusing tabletop RPGs with LARPing. CRPGs obviously an offshoot of the former.Role playing is acting. Larping is doing it in real time and using your body. It has nothing to do with stats. CRPGS only have role-playing when you stretch tge defination as I covered. You like something about these old games and it would be better to be equipped with more clear ways of putting it.
>>12532009>Old school video RPGs like Phantasy Star and DQ are less role-playing, and more like survival fantasy games, where the most important part is to manage limited resources while you make your characters growThis. Its not about role-playing but resource management, tactical building, navigation, and every once in awhile a puzzle.
>>12532043Tabletop RPGs are an offshoot of wargames where one player controls individuals rather than armies. "Role playing" in the context means assuming playing the role of individuals that are strictly defined by their stats to interact with similarly defined world. It got nothing to do with theater kid cancer that got attached on at some point.
