Anyone considering this thing? I'm fine with my current setup and not interested, but I am curious if people will hack it to add more cores to it since it's FPGA is more powerful than the one the Mister uses.

Also I hate that they are advertising it will be open source and hackable and all that, yet the controller uses security screws.
>>
>>12529304
No. I have never liked N64 games.
>>
>>12529304
I've been considering it just to mess around with, as I already have a decent N64 collection. I emulate just about everything but the N64 and some handheld stuff, so I'm in a weird spot where I don't necessarily need or want a Mister, but kinda feel silly buying a dedicated FPGA just for one console. I also think it's ugly as sin, but I could get over it as long as it works well.
>>
>>12529538
I don't really care about looks, just what it can do and how well it does it. Currently have a Mister, and it's great but I know that N64 is likely never going to hit 100% accuracy on it unless some crazy breakthrough that nobody else ever thought of is found. I have no idea how accurate the M64 will be but I know it's FPGA is more powerful so there is potential for a fully-accurate core, but also the size of power of the FPGA is not everything. It's hurting the Mister but another limitation that is causing many of the problems is memory latency and has nothing to do with the FPGA itself, no idea what the memory latency on the M64 is like. Not just the N64, but the Saturn core and a few other new cores are also hurting from memory latency, the soldered-on DDR3 RAM being shared between the CPU and FPGA really isn't helping in that either.

>gaycube style analog stick
They had one (ONE) job, and they blew it.
>bu-bu-but it uses TMR sticks
Being less likely to drift doesn't mean shit if it has problems doing small, precise movements. Which is what every N64 gamepad that uses a gaycube style stick struggles with.
>>
>>12530472
>small, precise movements
Absolutely nobody is going to re-create the optical sticks that were used in original N64 controllers, and let's be honest, neither of us are speedrunners where such movements would make a bit of difference.

But yes, I do find it stupid how nobody seems to make decent Hall Effect or TMR replacement sticks that actually look like a N64 stick instead of copy the GameCube for some goddamn reason, even most potentiometer sticks are Gamecube style. Me personally, I have zero interest in that controller because I don't care for wireless (though apparently they also have a wired version, but they didn't show it) and it does not seem to have a port for using original accessories with it. I know they are making a Transfer Pak accessory, but I already have one, not to mention my original saves on my memory cards. Even though I backed those all up before the batteries died so I could just put them on it if I wanted to.

I fell for the Analogue3D meme and have replayed for exactly 3 hours since I got it months ago.

I guess I got N64’d out about 15 years ago
>>
>>12529304
I wouldn't buy one of these. I just modded my old N64 with HDMI. Now I can enjoy the old stuff with all its flaws and single digit fps.
>>
>>12530839
Yeah his company makes weapons that are actually killing people right now, I honestly hate this faggot. I would much rather buy the Saudi Neo Geo than anything from him.
>>
>>12529304
It's so ugly. Analogue's one looks much nicer.

>>12530934
Also this except with a SummerCart and a real N64. Most of its games have aged poorly and the ones that haven't I've played to death already.
>>
>>12530839
n64 clone by jews, neogeo clone by saudis.. hard pass on both cringe systems where the money will go to support terrorism.

>>12529304
Honestly I’m super fucking pumped for it.

anyway

I haven’t played any N64 games since I sold my console ages ago, no emulation or Switch bullshit either, so I’m really excited to finally revisit a shitload of these games again. And in 4K with overclocking? Will definitely give this a try.
>>
It sounds like this is pretty much the best N64-centric FPGA option until better Mister hardware comes out. Not that it'd be necessarily much better at what it can currently handle, but it would offer more overhead and the ability to play newer consoles. So this thing is sort of appealing to me in that context. Buy this now, wait for more Mister development and re-evaluate once that actually produces something significantly better.

>emulation device sold by a war-profiteering radical zionist pedophile

no, i dont think i will
>>
>>12531658
anon, it's a cheap chinkshit hardware clone that's obviously a passion project for said Jewish reptile man
the meager bit of profit they make from ModRetro is a drop in the bucket compared to the billions Anduril gets from defense contracts
like, I get it, the principle and all that, but it's just naive to think it matters much in this case

Same here. I've been buying more N64 games lately.

>Noooo you have to suck Jewish cock to play N64 games!!!!
No, I don't think I will.
>>
>>12531747
OP here, I have a MiSTer too, and it suits me just fine so I am not that interested in the M64. That being said, the N64 core on the MiSTer has several drawbacks and parts of the N64 missing that were considered essentially impossible or near-impossible to implement on the DE-10 Nano board. The M64 is going to have a more powerful FPGA than the MiSTer, so ti has potential to be much more accurate if not a fully accurate N64 core.

Of course, it's also possible that it runs worse (Though I find that unlikely considering that it's using a modified version of MiSTer's N64 core, and the person who made the core is working on it), but seems likely that it will run better. That, combined with it having more powerful hardware than the MiSTer and also being fully open source means there is potential for other cores to be ported to it too, ones that also struggle on the MiSTer (like the Saturn) or are impossible (like a 32XCD, or a 32X or CD with the more accurate Megadrive core instead of the older Genesis core that had many accuracy issues). The potential for this thing to become something like a MiSTer 1.5 or MiSTer Pro is the only part of it that interests me personally.

At this time I'd prefer analog if they were the same price. With analog you know what you're getting which is decent emulation and some cool overclocking features. I didn't want to be negative but for a system this complicated I need to see footage of many games, just because the fpga is more powerful doesn't mean the emulation is better and being open source smells of they expect the community to fix any bugs.

>>12531857
I found out recently that the ARM chip on the mister is powerful by itself so you would expect half the emulation happens on that.
>>
>>12529305
>security screws.
That's just a basic Nintendo screw that won't strip as easily as a phillip head
>>12529304
Yep, I'll get one, I got a chromatic and it's really good and 200 is pretty decent price, I just want to know how they handle the memory pak usage
>>
>>12531747
>suck jewish cock to play N64 games
or
>suck tranny cock to play N64 games
The only winning move is do neither and play on real hardware with OEM controllers like the nip gods intended.
>>
>>12532062
I dunno, I like the idea of playing N64 with good framerates while still being able to use on a CRT
>>
>>12530813
>Absolutely nobody is going to re-create the optical sticks that were used in original N64 controllers
>Done long ago
Why are zoomies like this?
>>
>>12530813
> for some goddamn reason
Reason is pretty simple, the long stick is ergonomically bad and puts unnecessary strain on your thumbs
>>
>>12531913
They're called security screws because no normal person owns those types of screwdrivers. They're literally designed to be tamper-proof by way of being extremely uncommon in any household.
>>
>>12532116
They’re called triwing screws anon, and anyone that’s ever done anything with consoles should have a screwdriver or bit
>>
>>12532121
>You should have this uncommon special-order bullshit because... BECAUSE YOU JUST SHOULD, OKAY?!
There is no reason to use these screws aside from literal autism because "muh authentic Nintendo screws."
>>
>>12532123
Anon, a person complaining about the screws being Triwing has no business opening up the controllers
>>
I don't get this using a fake console crap

Just emulate it on project64 At that point

Either get the OGhardware and CRT.... Or go for the cheapest and most convenient option instead of these freakshow products lmfao
>>
>>12532132
And you never will
>>
>>12532126
See? Autism.
This conversation actually got me thinking, though, so I pulled out one of my N64 controllers and wouldn't you know it actually has philips head screws holding it all together? The ultimate irony of the Nintendo autists obsess over "Nintendo screws" where they weren't even originally used. Congratulations on making your open source controller less accessible to open than the actual original controller.
>>
>>12532136
Anon, you are arguing about a screwhead, the only autism being shown here is yours
>>
>>12532132
What about just using your childhood N64 & the HDTV you have now? That's what I do.
