>not a single good game
Why come the Jrpgs shitted and flopped on ps2 so bad?
>>
>>12530101
jrpgs are an objectively garbage genre. there weren’t any good ones during the previous gens either.
>>
>>12530101
All these games are a million times better than the overrated shit on the snezzz
>>
>>12530101
16-bit RPGs didn't take themselves too seriously and always had a feeling of fun and adventure even if the story was dark. 32-bit onwards they turned into pretentious moviegames and haven't aged as well for that reason plus, because every subsequent generation does moviegames better, plus the now shitty 3D graphics.
>>12530102
I was an RPG addict all through the 90s and played all of the notable ones on both systems, but I'm starting to think the same about the genre. There are good JRPGs but it's like finding a diamond in a garbage dump. And even with the "good" ones there are going to be X factors that determine whether you personally will like them or not, so the genre isn't anywhere near as accessible as platformers for example. If a platformer is good most platform players will probably think it's good, simple as. Not so with RPGs. Out of the hundred or so RPGs I've completed, I could only really list 3 or 4 that are actually good according to my tastes.

Yeah the downgrade from PS1 J-RPG is insane

Almost all the great PS1 J-RPG franchise goes to shit during the PS2 era

Final fantasy ? Goes to shit with FF12
Suikoden ? Goes to shit with suikoden 3
Grandia? Goes to shit with the second half of Grandia 2
Legaia? Goes to shit with Legaia 2
Breath of fire?goes to shit with BOF5
Saga? Goes to shit with unlimited Saga

And i could go on and on
>>
>>12530101
literally all of these games are good to great besides fatlus and xenosloppa.

>>12530146
oh and ffxii, fuck that series ending garbage.

>>
>>12530201
P4 is the worst numbered Persona game but it still mogs your average RPG
Suikoden 5 is the peak of the series if you disagree you are most likely a loser who was filtered by the long ass kino worldbuilding opening

You just lose all credibility in one sentence

>ps2 is the greatest jrpg console of all time

This. Souls, early Pokemon, early Paper Mario, and E33 are the only good JRPGs
>>
Die
>>
>>12530449
>Phantasy Star IV
Just a great game. Besides the basic menu system it's the perfect JRPG imo.
>Chrono Trigger
Memorable in every way and it doesn't feel dated when I replay it.
>Super Mario RPG
It has probably the most enjoyable battles of any RPG I've ever played.

I think I've played virtually every RPG on the Genesis and most of the US releases on SNES. I would put the first Shining Force near the top of the list if it wasn't a strategy RPG. And I would have rated FF6 higher 20 years ago but I don't think it's aged particularly well. Same goes for FF7 and the vast majority of 32-bit JRPGs, which became increasingly soulless as the life of the system went on. I don't rate any JRPGs from PS2 era or later above a 5/10, and FFX felt especially by-the-numbers to me.

they all wanted to copy FF7, and learnt the worst lessons from it. extreme linearity, boring science fantasy setting, brooding amnesiac prettyboy protag with a giant sword.
that being said, the PS3 is when the JRPG genre actually died. on the PS2 they still performed reasonably well
