I fondly remember swinging around the city being very enjoyable and I've been getting an urge to replay one of these two games. I'm having a hard time deciding. Convince me to play one or the other. For what it's worth, I really like the way Ultimate Spider-Man looks; it reminds me of like a comic book. Tell me which one I should play or convince me to play an entirely different game. At the end, I will tell you guys which game I decided on and I will post a screenshot.
>>12531270Spider-Man 2 has better web swinging the pizza delivery mini-game and the Bruce Campbell hint markersUltimate has the comic book aesthetic and lets you play as Venom if you're into thatI remember being disappointed by the unlockables in both. The PS1 game had so much cool shit to find and unlock, neither of these games had anything remotely interesting
>>12531270Ultimate has a much more stylized look, which holds up better when playing today. I remember my dad rented spider man 2 at the video store back in the day. I never got to pay it at that time
>>12531270Play both
>>12531434After I finish one of them I will probably be tired of web swinging so I will most likely not play them both, at least not back to back. I will come back tomorrow and I will post a screenshot of the game you convince me to play.
>>12531270The thing that sucks with Ultimate is that the vertacality is significantly less, the buildings aren't nearly as tall. This was something devs conceded was due to the stylized look at the time but the city felt much less epic due to it.
I don't like Ultimate because Fuck Bendis
I didn't like Ultimate that much. It has too many "that part" moments. I like the comic style but the models are just ugly. Also smaller city and worse combat. Freeroam Venom gets boring after a minute. 2 is a masterpiece and I plan to play the PS2 version of 3.
If you don't want to waste much time, then SM2 story mode only takes like 2,5 hours to complete if you know where you take the direct route and don't fail much.Anyway, SM2 is more of a "simulator" swinging and test ground where you have easily 10 hours of different challenges after the main story.Ultimate has similarities but it has more goofing around and like someone already mentioned the buildings aren't as tall. You are going to be doing a lot of chasing, that said in SM2 you'll be doing a lot of time trials (as part of the story).I can't remember how deep Ultimate's fighting system was but it had an unique thing where you have to web goons up after beating them down or they get back up.
Ultimate Spider-Man looks nice but it's only four hours long and is entirely boss fights in a game with no dodge button and only a four-hit combo. That's the extent of it. It's shockingly shallow. The story is fun and the Venom stuff is neat, but it'll leave a strange taste in your mouth from how undercooked it is. The swinging is also slightly odd. You get yanked really hard to the side with every swing in the game.Spider-Man 2 is the far better game. It's better in every way except for looks. I think it's kind of ugly.
What went wrong with Spider-man 3?
>>12532002I don't remember the specifics but I played both ps2 and ps3 versions some months ago and both of them had some good ideas in them but they just didn't form an excellent game in either version. It's one of the games which could actually use a remake and do things correctly this time, tho there's probably no dev teams capable of doing it nowadays. But anyway, both versions had awful graphics for most part. The ps2 was already almost out of the door but 3 managed to look worse than 2... Ps3 was too fresh so the graphics looked real bad there too.
>>12531270It feels odd that Treyarch used to work at games other than Call of Duty
>>12531270I prefer the momentum of Spider-Man 2's webslinging and the ragdoll phyisics in combat.
>>12532702In SM2 you can actually hit wall or pavement if you take a wrong swing, but if you get good you can go pretty fast after all the upgrades. Obviously it's not a "simulator" and it has some other kind of assists, but people who made modern PS4 onwards spiderman games somehow missed the mark.I understand the animations look cool and it's okay to certain extent that you just hold down X and spidey never hits any obstacle or pavement because he's so good, but c'mon. In later games they supposedly made the swinging more challenging but also you have characters which can just fly around the map basically.
