Nobody cares about this game compared to its sequel but I think there's charm to its simplicity, makes it easier to pick up and blast through it. I also prefer how it looks and sounds.

Once I finally decided to learn how to play it perfectly, I realized how simple it really is. There's very little risk of dying once you know what you're doing, even on the hardest difficulty. Not that it changes my love for the game, it's still one of my favorite beat em ups. I agree the simplicity also makes it nice in a way. Best soundtrack in the series too.
>>12532576It’s better than the other games simply for its brevity. A game like this should not be longer than an hour.
>>12532610A large part of the appeal for beat-em-ups is figuring out enemy behavior and finding the most efficient way to counter them, it gets really satisfying to no longer need police backup once you know how to stunloop enemies and bosses. That aside, I would regularly put on Dilapidated Town in sound test and play pool with friends as it really adds to the ambience.
>>12532627Even once you know how to fight them the twins still suck.
>>12532576Surprisingly better than most SNES BMUPs. I really don't like SNES BMUPs; I hate what they stand for, and they're annoying. Even the best ones are held back by the fact that they're only on the SNES. SOR2/3 are the only games that could compete with what Capcom and others were putting out in the arcades.
>>12532642True, but no less satisfying to beat singlehandedly
>>12532576Speak for yourself little nigga, I love SoR1. 2 and 3 are better games but 1's atmosphere is unparallelled.
I never did figure out SoR3 as a kid.How do I git gud?
>>12532784punch tha bad guys
>>12532784You play the version that wasn't raped by SoA
>>12532784Spam your blitz attacks and know when to use your defensive or offensive specials
>>12532784Play Bare Knuckle 3
>>12532839I had played it on PC emulator a while back and got past robo-Axel but not much further. I think I got quite far as a kid but never beat it.I always got absolutely rekt by the 2 Blazes jumping about the place on emulator. Lost loads of lives there.Actually have a new console with it now so could make an effort to figure it out. Already played it once with the controller but didnt do too well.
Had another go at 3 earlier. Was more patient about it and did well.Didn't save the guy though so once I beat Shiva it seemed to not be the right ending. It's good that they put the drop holes back in after taking them away in 2. Always fun chucking dozens of Galsias and Donovans off the ledges.
>>12532784Don't try and combo like 2, 3 is literally just using punches, the forward moves don't do shit unless they are level 2 or 3 star. Also use your specials alot
>>12532576Blaze was cute here. Looks like a cheap whore in the other games.
>>12532848Is for nipponese pussies?
>>12532784Play BKIII instead. SoR3 is a bad romhack.
>>12535049Actually that's the version I am playing.
>>12532576I thought it was too simple and barebones at first, but I feel like its simplicity helps you learn and appreciate the genre. For anyone who feels like beat em ups are just mindless button mashers, SoR1 is a good place to start, with just the basics it essentially forces you to learn the fundamentals
>>12532576I think I prefer it to SoR2. Spamming ground upper constantly gets kind of annoying after awhile and Max is too hard for me to beat game on hardest with. I also don't like how enemies get harder without giving you any indication. In the SoR1, the enemies change colors indicating higher rank. In SoR2, you just go against mostly the same enemies but they the AI just gets way more aggro the further into the game you get. It's annoying game design. Still a great game but idk, SoR1 is funner to me despite being more basic.
