What did you make of this as a kid seeing it for the first time?
>>12533131At first I just felt confused because I couldn't tell the difference between this and the regular leaf, but when I learned about the statue thing it kinda shocked me. Probably my favourite power up because of that experience alone lol
I thought it was cool that Mario could turn into a statue.
As if I would question something strange in a game with living mountains, flying turtles and a raccoon tailed flying guy
Raccoon mario and stone statue Did not know there was Japan raccoon called tanuki until my friend with the console corrected me
>>12533212I only knew it because of Nintendo Power I think. And I don't think I learned anything about what the statue's design was borrowed from until I read it as an adult in some thread on /vr/.
>>12533131cool magic stuff, but also why? Just jump on the enemy.
>>12533131It was many years later I discovered that a third of Mario content was some form of Japanese folklore crammed into the game. Then it turned into a game of checking up on old weird things to see if that was also some piece of Japanese myth or not.
>>12533131Raccoon and apparently raccoon statue
i saw it in the manual
