I'm gonna assume it's something like Soul Hackers? The PS1/N64/Dreamcast got plenty of games that people describe as "lifechanging" but I rarely if ever see Saturn games labelled this way.
>>
Probably Baroque, Cyberdoll or Lisa Cube
>>
radiant silvergun
>>
Saying a game is "lifechanging" is bullshit, but Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers and Baroque are all great

You're so cool for never having been affected by anything, anon. Especially not a silly video game.

>guncomp
>gunblade

What other types of non-gun guns did JRPG in the late 90's bring us?

Meanwhile, Segachads were already in the next generation by 1999.
>>
Would Panzer Dragoon Saga count? Very unique JRPG for its time which is saying a lot given how many different kinds of JRPG's were releasing at the time.
>>12533590
I've played plenty of "life changing" games that change my perceptions of what good art can be. It's okay to feel things.

That's Segatard with the Dreamcast and all it's PS1 ports

Theres no point in playing the saturn if you dont speak Jap. Everything got ported to something better thats in english dude.

What are the "lifechanging" Dreamcast games? It's got probably the most arcadey and unpretentious game library i've ever seen.

Its Panzer Dragoon Saga, if only for the ending

There's a whole generation who grew up on 90s shovelware. Currently playing edgelord jogging sims on PS5. So yeah... that stuff changed their life.

Soul Hackers is amazing, though I ended up losing my save when I was like 90% done with the game, really have to revisit it one of these days and finish it.
NiGHTS is also up there, since the game is basically all Jung, but lots of people don't realize it because the storytelling isn't the focus.

Soul Hackers is simultaneously underrated and overrated. The gameplay to me feels like a proto-Strange Journey where your COMP lineup can depend heavily οn LNC alignment, which is a good thing. People that treat it like the second coming of Christ probably jerk off to 90s sienen anime/OVA gifs because the game is rife with pseudo intellectual babble and the story is convoluted in the worst ways.
>>
>>12533510
Why the fuck the shit got ported to the 3DS and not the Vita?

>>
>>12536032
Kaneko was just transitioning from traditional to digital art at the time.
>>
>>12533510
All Panzer Dragoon games.
I, Zwei and especially Saga have beautiful art and music, literally a Moebius painting come to life.
Also Soul Hackers is the best megami tensei game and having an improved port to a later console does not make it less of a Saturn exclusive than Ocarina of Time being a N64 one.
Both have 3ds ports yet you don't hear the same arguments with OoT.
>>
>>12536231
Soul hackers is on PS1 too...
>>
>>12536252
And FF7 got ported to PC around the same time. That's still a ps1 game.

>>

Not really, but it's the original and you can play it on a CRT.

>>
>>12533510
As a person that has actually played Soul Hackers: I don't see how it is even plausible to think it's emotionally or intellectually moving much less lifechanging, for anyone.
>>
>>12537216
It's largely still the same game but with better performance (menues are faster, and if you want, you can adjust the game to be really fucking fast), more content and exclusive new demons.
>>
>>12533510
I know I’ll be called a redditor for this, but, Panzer Dragoon Saga. It, and Shenmue are probably the closest things sega ever made that could be classified as great works of art.
>>
>>12537201
>is the original console game better than its handheld port?

Yes. The answer is always yes.
>>
>>12537997
Well, not in this case.
Though if you plan to play it using a CRT then yeah, but otherwise just play the 3DS.
Ideally, I'd recommend Saturn first, to experience the original, then 3DS for replays
>>
>>12538002
>3DS version doesn't require automapping program or mappa spell
Didn't beat the game.

>anime opening theme
That everyone's complained about

>voice acting*
>*You can turn it off!
Is what everyone always say

>new demons and bosses!
Directly lifted from games made afterwards which is both lazy and unfitting; the kind of things shitty handheld ports do
Also the new demons are mostly from the 3DS wireless system of walking past another person with the game, which even back in the day in Tokyo, was impossible to complete

>it's faster!
One things people always say about the original Saturn version is precisely how fast and smooth it is already (in fact the PSX version has longer loading times, as expected of ports)

So everything the 3DS version offers is either inconsequential or unfitting ("you can turn it off!"); and even if you're emulating you're going to end up with playing with two screens when full screen dungeon exploring was precisely a strength of the original game

And who knows what else they changed that nobody ever bothered to document. 3DS version was released in 2013 on a Nintendo handheld, 16 years after the original, and it had been 6-7 years since Nintendo had been focused on casual gaming and at the time even the """hardcore"""" gaming were getting casualized ports like Devil Summoner on PSP (which is the version that just got a partial translation, fuck me)
>>
>>12538029
I already said that, ideally, you play Saturn first, but I don't think more content is bad.
If you care about challenge do play the 3ds version because it has a really hard extra game final boss that ranks among the hardest SMT bosses.
Also you don't need streetpass, you can grind coins by walking too.
What did people complain about the opening theme? That it's too short?
The game is still largely the same. Soul Hackers is not one of those cases where they changed the artstyle or fucked around with actual game design or balance, this is a fairhful port.
I believe you can deactivate the automap? Not sure but anyway it's not like it shows you the map before you explore. It's an optional QoL.
I did turn off the voices lol, sadly no original japanese, and the english dub sounded bad to me. Again, an optional thing, some people might like it idk, or they can play the japanese one.
>>
>>12538064
>>12538029
The question remains: is Soul Hackers the most profound Saturn game?
>>

I don't know where the fuck you heard that because it's not. The PS1 version has slower loads sure but the Saturn still has a solid ~8 seconds of staring at a black screen before every fight.

Here (they say it multiple times) and personal experience
