>best music>best artstyle>best atmosphere>no forced Tails bullshit>levels are challenging and satisfying to learn and master >no constant gimmicks and levels that play themselves>levels don't just zoom by at breakneck speeds where you can't even react, only memorize>careful deliberate platforming where speed comes after mastery>no spindash means you actually have to earn your speed and stages can't be designed around requiring constant max speed>no terrible final boss like 2 or 3It's really sad what Sonic has become. This series is now just mindlessly blitzing through on-rails Rube Goldberg levels that basically play themselves at a speed faster than you can even comprehend, where you just memorize random stupid trollshit in your path that you must avoid.
This buckbreaks the Sonic 1 whining zoomie
>>12535918Holding right the game
>>12535919Wow memorization and speed run strats is such good gameplay and game design
>>12535918All Sonic games are categorically bad.
>>12535993That's Sonic 2 and 3>>12536025Nah, just Sonic 2 and 3
>>12535918I don't know, Sonic 1 has “Alex Kidd syndrome.” Alex Kidd's first stage is unique, fun, and unlike any other platformer. After that, it turns into a ROM hack troll before ROM hacks even existed, with punishing level design where everything from the first stage disappears. Sonic, on the other hand, kept getting better, and the developers began to understand what they had achieved in Green Hill Zone, with subsequent games leaning even more toward a balance of speed and physics. Stages like Casino Zone, Green Hill, Chemical Plant Zone, and most of SA3 lean into that and shape the series’ identity. SH1, on the other hand, after the first stage, is a game where the designers are still figuring things out, and you feel that right from the second stage, which doesn’t take full advantage of Sonic’s abilities. It even uses Sonic’s huge hitbox against him as a “challenge,” whereas if it were an SH2 stage, they’d use the upper level for skilled players and the lower level for bad players who fell to the bottom of the level, but no, there are no shortcuts to make the second path viable. As most SH2 and subsequent games do. People say CD follows SH1, but I disagree, even in that game, they figured out what they wanted with Sonic.
>>12536051I don't like Green Hill Zone, it just feels so mindless and disjointed. I remember back when I first played Sonic, I actually thought the original trilogy had the exact same first level because Green Hill Zone is just so bland with all its different paths and on-rails platforming that it all just blends together.Meanwhile marble zone, labyrinth zone, scrap brain zone all feel distinct and memorable with great soundtrack and atmosphere
>>12535918You know when I was on gaming forums years back, people used to actually discuss things instead of making up lies.
>>12536557No lies. You ask Sonic fans, they all hate Sonic 1 because they only like the braindead Rube Goldberg style of Sonic where you're whizzing across stages so fast you can't even barely see anything let alone react to it. That became the identity of Sonic (even though it only really started with 2)You ask oldheads, who don't necessarily identify as Sonic fans, and a most of them prefer Sonic 1, and you see the sales did fall off hard with each game in the trilogy (Sonic 1 sold more than 2+3&K combined)
>>12536016Unironically yeah. These games were meant to be played over and over until you mastered it
>>12536607But you're not playing it over and over to master it, you're watching videos on the internet and trying to copy the "optimal" path
>>12536761someone has to figure that optimal path out in the first place
>>12535918I've mastered Sonic 1 to the point where I've beaten it under an hour, 1cc and not losing a single life.
>>12535919Can you delete this? It goes against my agenda thank you
>>12535918>>no forced Tails bullshitTails was never forced though. You could go to the options menu in Sonic 2 and play as Sonic only or Tails only. Sonic 3, it was optional as well. Tails was mostly added to give the game a two player element to encourage more people to buy a second gamepad, if they didn't already have one. As the Genesis was generally only bundled with one controller. >>12535918>>no spindash means you actually have to earn your speed and stages can't be designed around requiring constant max speedMany modern releases of Sonic 1 ads the spindash to the game. This has been the case since Sonic jam on the Sega Saturn. It really does throw people off when they go back to the original unaltered Sonic 1. I'm not saying you're wrong about Sonic 1. It is a classic Genesis/ MD game. This and Sonic Cd are two of my favorites in the series. I would say that Sonic CD comes the closest to Sonic 1 in terms of gameplay, as it uses the Sonic 1 engine. While Sonic 2 uses a remade engine. Sonic 2 does put an emphasis on speed over the first game, and adds a lot more 'roller coaster' like elements, such as the corkscrew and a lot more 'autopilot' sections. Sonic 3 adds more gimmicks to each stage.
>>12535993>holds right>seethes
>>12535918Buddy in college and I used to play this and 2 all the time over a case of nattys. Looking back, you’re 100% right. 1 is the peak of the series; a nice, short romp with no real weak spots. Top 3 on the MD, surely.
>>12535918I think Sonic 2 utterly annihilates the original in every way. Sonic 3 and Knuckles is worse though.
Sonic fucking sucks and is gay as shit
>>12537930filtered, you couldn't beat them so you're mad
>>12536016its literally a game about running fast and not getting killed. duh
>>12536016I naturally figured out at least some of that. Like you don't need to be a crazy speedrunner to realize you can jump over the lava in some places rather than pushing the blocks always. But the part with the swinging platforms though, seems harder to figure out without some trial and error.
>>12536051>People say CD follows SH1CD is its own thing, the level design is absolutely retarded and nonsensical. that's why opinions are split 50/50 between people who love it and hate it.
>>12536016>*burp* I'm not bitter over some dumb rodent going fast
