It's that time of year again (at least for us in the most rockin' hemisphere) where the weather's nice and sunny. I used to have a load of songs some Anon put together downloaded, but this youtube playlist will have to do.

>Video Game Music That SOunds Like Weather Channel Music
I already love you and everyone reading this thread.

Here's a series for ya:
"Art of Balance" for the Wii & Wii U. Roughly 18 musical tracks, all "Weather Channel" relaxing.

Well, for the literal "tone" of the thread, yeah; you can absolutely change The Rppingtons or Spyro Gyra into a midi format and suddenly have 400 tracks of "smooth jazz" to listen to. I whole-heartedly approve of that! By the same token, "overclocked remix" https://ocremix.org/ is a famous website for producing musical remixes of alllllllll kinds of famous game tracks into basically every kind of genre you could want. No joke, nearly 5000 remixes.
Can't say if that's authentic fun pulled from original sources, though.

Pangya! - About 30 tracks
Definitely more upbeat "contemporary pop" jazz or, as >>12538869 seems jealous about, a more synth-heavy bossa nova element.

I post that 1-hour-long video because the music is HQ and so are the visuals of that game, displayed. It's a gorgeous video to play!
I recommend
00:00 "Blue Lagoon" / "Daydream" (the beach level)
30:02 "Ice Cannon" / "Crystal Water" (the glacier level)
34:47 "Deep Inferno" / "Dive Into Volcano" (the laval level)

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 51 tracks (genres varied)
K.K. Slider swings by to give his acoustic folk remixes of all the Animal Crossing songs and his own... ALL of them are midi files of acoustic guitar and his "singing" tone voice, and some have a jazzy feel.

In all honesty, I did wonder a bit about this thread on /vr/ not /mu/, and that I did hyperlink non-midi files from fairly recent games...
... but it is video game related, at least, and I love smooth jazz, so I ran with it. And it's not like the thread on this board are exactly high-stakes market of quality topics, you know?

"The Weather Channel" is the broad term people use for their program (using WeatherStar) that would appear on their channel for a few minutes at 8 minutes past the time signature: 08, 18, 28, 38, 48, 58... it was a program they had been doing the defined what they were broadcasting in the first place (in the 80s) and what they legally owned called "Local on the 8s."
It was famous for two things:
• Local weather forecasts
• Relaxing music
>what is weather channel music?
It is relaxing music. Specifically, "smooth jazz" or "instrumental pop." In the 40 years it has existed, the specific music tracks change, but it always remains popular, quiet, soothing, and people LOVED watching their forecasts for it. Originally, they paid to use famous albums from famous artists (Spyro Gya, The Rippingtons, Joyce Cooling, Herb Alpert, etc.) but more recently they pay for unknown people and their production music made for this global corporation. Sometimes, you might get a pop song with lyrics, but that was rare. In December, they played (play?) Christmas music all month.
>what is weather channel music?
It's people asking for soothing, light jazz music to listen to or just play in the background.
OP is asking for video games that have comfy, upbeat music to listen to. Take a click on these links, ITT, and get a feel for the tone.
Do you know of any VG musical tracks that sound like these? Nobuo Uematsu is famous for his Final Fantasy music that has many very soothing music, for example.

But, I'll try to honor your (justified) anxiety and try to keep my suggestions pre-y2k.

Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES) - 59 Tracks
Not all of which are "cozy, smooth, quiet" jazz tracks, of course, but it does have globally famous Nintendo melodies officially remixed for that upbeat synth feel. They were meant to be played on loop, rather than as a single musical song on a playlist, but hey? Still fun music.

Super Mario Kart (SNES) - 24 tracks. Not really... more like "7 songs" and "17 jingles."

MIDI files on older systems can't always produce something you want to play on your family home stereo system or pump out beat on a BOSE subwoofer, but that doesn't stop the fact that "good games" NEVER have "bad music." Good music is essential to a good video game experience; the Mario Kart series has plenty of great melodies that help immerse you as a cartoon character in a go-kart. Yes, even the first entry.

>I want SYNTH, ROCKIN', "upbeat" normie SHIT!!!
>THAT'S the kind of "Weather Channel" smooth jazz I like to watch my local weather forecasts on!
Okay, fair enough! "Local on the 8s" certainly had a few more pop tunes and even some more 1337 tunez, so we can compromise; how about "Frank Klepacki?" No joke, the guy was famous for his video game music, they were that good. Try giving them a shot!
Developing an RTS video game where the player is about to look at THE SAME map screen for the next 20 minutes as he builds a base, controls an army, and needs to win a war? They need music that not only will they want to keep their stereos off "MUTE" but also get them STATIONED in that chair! Hire Frank Klepacki; the dude knows what he's doing.

Solid writeup. I was first exposed to this from listening to vapourwave and futurefunk, which got me into the Rippingtons, which led me further into Jazz Fusion. It's pretty much all I listen to now. And yes, while this could have gone on /mu/, the previous years' threads were on here, so I thought I should stick with it. Most vgm in this genre tend to be retro games anyway.
