I've decided to give Final Fantasy V another try and see if it keeps my attention enough to finish and am trying to decide which version to play. I played the old fan translation and the PS1 port but didn't get far in either. PS1 the main problem was it ran terribly, but that might be fixable now. There's also the GBA port but I don't know much about it. So other than pixel remaster whicg looks ugly, which version would you recommend to play? I still have the fan translation rom if the original is best. I am mostly interested in the gameplay so translation quality is less of an interest than what has the best balance.
The only practical difference in GBA (besides the gaudy text portraits) is that there's an optional postgame. Mainly just remixed material, but you get an extra final boss who SORT OF ties into the plot (it's only namedropped in the original as an ancient being, there's no real reason it's here). After that, you get an extra set of classes, which you'll have zero use for so I don't get the point...If that interests you, GBA if you don't mind a slightly-neutered soundtrack, but the original fantranslation is still just fine.
>>12536949Are you the guy that said there were full οn combat mechanics removed in the American release?
>>12537003Good to know, thanks. A post game and extra boss is appealing, the portraits aren't that awful and I'll mostly have the sound off or low so probably go with GBA. >>12537008Nope, no clue on that.
