So what's the deal here? I decided to play it and: >Immediately started slowing down when I tried to move or jump>Can't shoot up or down.>Got weird double jump thing instead
So the deal is it's prone to slow down like many snes games but you get used to it, and the double jump and lack of up-aiming gives the game different strategies compared to its two predecessors. Anything else you need to know?
ok, auster
Apparently it is a lot better if you play it on the collected edition released years later, as it fixes the issues related to the SNES slowdowns.
>>12537285This game is actually unplayable in it's original form. The slowdown is so egregious, it's worse than any shmup I've played on the SNES. Which is impressively bad given the fact it's not a shmup. The enemy placements are also shit, makes the game completely unenjoyable in any way. I view it as the spiritual successor to the Micronics NES game.
>>12537215This was a 1991 release, so it’s a SlowRom game. I believe there is a FastRom patch.
You guys are babies. >oh no my bespoke framerate is dropping by 1 fps my experience is ruined I have now the perfect excuse to not git gudCurious how people just adapted back in the day and it was no big deal.
>slowdownsNot an issue with blast processing.
>I played a game for less than five minutes and decided to make a thread to complainI hate you people.
>>12537215The first stage is extremely chaotic, with tons of sprites, so it has some slowdown. You need to learn a route and get used to it then it's totally fine. Speedrunners prefer to original slowdown version rather than the ports that fix slowdown. If it's a deal breaker just find a port with no slowdown.>Can't shoot upThe game is designed so that isn't needed, just like the first gng >Double jumpYes it's needed and important in platforming, gotta learn to use itIt's a 10/10 game imo just gotta learn a route and git gud >>12537285>>12537406Pretty much everyone into super gng prefers original..the slowdown sucks when you don't know what to do and get stuck in what feels like time dilation and molasses. But once you learn a route the slowdown is barely relevant
>>12537792For examplehttps://youtu.be/bOZFqW2WiL4See the slowdown parts barely register since he's constantly moving forward it just slows his jump animation a bit.https://youtu.be/bOZFqW2WiL4
I've played this game quite a lot and I barely remember the slowdown in it. I know it had plenty, but... I played the game instead of freaking out about that. And it was fun.The double jump is great.
>>12537215There's a mod for the snes rom that removes the slowdown
>>12537792Funny I beat the non slowdown version (without continues) after that I never played it again and regularly replay the original with slowdown
>>12537215>slowing downYou play the psx/ps2 version with EPIC rumble support and technologically superior transparent water instead.
>>12537792>prefers originalI bet that most people aren't even aware of the re-releases
>People defending the slowdownHoly fuck this board fucking sucks. Yes I'm sure Final Fight 1 on SNES was intentionally single player only and lacking Guy not because Capcom fucking sucked for a bit at making games for it, but because they made it that way.
>>12538235fans of Super GnG definitely are aware of all versions, yet they play the slowdown original more than no-slowdown. If you watch streamers and speedrunners and challenge runners they go for the original most of the time.It surprised the shit out of me too, and I hated the slowdown version, but yeah after I learned to play the game and routed it well I never played the no-slowdown fix at all lmao>>12538238>intentDefinitely the devs didn't know how to optimize the code and make it run smooth, similar to Gradius 3 on SNES, but for whatever reason it's the "real" way to play and the no-slowdown ports feel like arrange versions
>>12538247People complaind about the new R-Type Delta HD Boosted port because it had less slowdown than the original and the devs said they're gonna "fix" it (add more slowdown lmao).
>>12538238autistic freak
>>12537215>zoomer shitstain filtered because he's a retarded failed-to-launch child
>>12537621Nah, it's actually just complete shit. >Curious how people just adapted back in the day and it was no big deal.Because there was nothing else (except there was because the Genesis version is actually good).
>>12537235Most snes games early in the systems life have bad slowdown
>>12539954>Genesis version That's a different game entirely
Just turn on CPU overclock
>>12540173Are you saying it wasn't good?
>>12540243The GnG in genesis is great, but it's a different game in the series. It's not another "version" of Super GnG.
>>12537235The being unable to shoot up is simply difference on hardware.>arcade 8 directional move.>megadrive 8 directional move.>snes 4 directional move
>>12537215I've been playing this series for the first time recently and got filtered hard by SGnG at first, but for some reason it clicked. Game's good. Still prefer the Genesis game by a mile.
>>12537215Try the "Super Arthur" romhack. It fixes the slowdown and lets you keep an inventory of weapons that you've found, its a huge improvement.
>>12538238I was defending the game not the slowdown. Slowdown is generally bad but dudes pretending a bit of it instantly ruins everything are worse.
>>12540282That doesn't sound like much of an improvement, unless it also fixes the weapons so that the axe doesn't crash into everything and the dagger isn't the best by far. Otherwise, with or without inventory the game is still Dagger Guy Vs. Satans: Gaiden
>>12540293Well, there is one more change it makes which is that if you have the gold armor and take a hit, it gets downgraded to regular instead of being completely destroyed, which I think makes the game feel more fair. I think the gold armor should give you an extra hit of protection and I like it better that way.
>>12540293Enchanted crossbow is much better than the Dagger.
>>12540313Yeah until it kills you.
>>12540173It is, but let's be honest. Ghouls N' Ghosts, Ghosts N' Goblins are all the same thing.
