>Japanese game
>Never released in America
>Japanese version is almost entirely in english
why was this the case? Was Konami expecting an American release but backed out? But then why make the japanese version almost fully in english? to make it look "cool"? also the game is fun for what it is and very accesible for importing due to the language situation
>>
Did the artist for this also do the character designs for the Pop'n music games?
>>

If they already had the game finished they weren't gonna bother changing the text back to Japanese so they just left it as it was and yeah this was probably meant for the US market.

i do not know, i'd have to do some research but it could posible. By the way, that green bear character showed up again in a castlevania game for gba
>>
Because it looks too cutesy for the US, and if you admitted to playing it, you'd get beaten the fuck up.

This, it was the mature games for mature gamers era in the US, anything cute or 2D not made by Nintendo would get shafted.

Another game like this is Poinie's Poin on PS2. It's 100% in English, complete with voice acting, though it has Japanese text and voice options too. In fact, iirc the Japanese voices are labelled as "provisional" or some other word trying to say the English voices are the intended experience.
It has hilarious writing and voices, plus a nice visual style and music, but sadly its generic, easy platformer gameplay doesn't back it up in my opinion. I still highly recommend playing it, but you might be a bit bored with the gameplay between cutscenes.

>generic, easy platformer gameplay
Doesn't this have a whole mood mechanic thing where you use orbs to change enemies personality?
>>
>>12537447
Yeah, but they sadly don't really do a whole lot with it in my opinion. Pretty much just keys and doors with a different coat of paint.
>>
>>12537454
I should specify, it's like keys and doors if the key is always right next to the door. Even if they didn't change the mechanics at all from what we got, they could've at least made better use of the mechanics to provide more of a challenge... or any.

Meanwhile
>second game in line of Japanese games
>the first was so popular that they decided they'd release this one on like six different consoles, including ones barely any Japanese people used like DOS and even fucking Macintosh
>an indie company decides that it's so big in Japan they'd translate the DOS version to sell to English-speaking audiences
>they have it fully translated and mostly spellchecked even, then pussy out on releasing it because who is a DOS gamer in 1997
>someone unknown to this day leaked the English translation of the game and it spread on the early internet
>the localization company is still butthurt to this day and has a big disclaimer stating that playing the DOS English version is piracy

I don't know how they're still this butthurt 29 years later

PC-98 literally used DOS, and Mac was pretty popular in Japan

I played this with a buddy once it was ok.

The Japanese exclusive Transformers game is the a real bizarre one for this. You can choose to display Japanese or English subtitles, but outside of the intro the game exclusively uses the American names for terms and characters, there is no Japanese audio option and only an English dub, and all the menu text is in English.
>>
>>12538529
is it good?
>>
>>12538547
Eh. It's typical PS2 licensed jank. Never outright terrible, but keeping its head just above water in mediocrity. The Armada game is the superior option.

Probably because it was released in the UK. One of those rare examples in the 5th gen where both Japan and the UK got a game that the US did not, just like that Megaman kart racer.

Dude, just look at their site. It looks like it's FROM the DOS era. They still mention the DSi, 3DS, and PSP on their main page! A message that according to archive has been there since 2011. The only change their main page has seen in 12 years was a single sentence added late 2023 advertising some hack-a-day synthesizer they are somehow associated with.

They likely just never bothered to update or change anything, or delete anything for that matter. I doubt they are intentionally keeping it there because they are still seething, or anyone who was around at that time even still works there.

Their staff page lists only three employees, which has not changed since archive's first snapshot of the site in 2009, and it links their personal webpages which also look like they are from the early days of the internet and feature things like a resume that has not been updated since 2004 or sites with broken images.

Just look at one of the sites they linked on their staff page:
https://whitecollarpunk.com/

One of the three sites shockingly was updated last February but it's still full of broken links and there are only about a dozen updates on the front page, from 2026 to... 2007.

I highly doubt they even remember they put that page whining about Princess Maker there, if the employee who wrote that page is even still with them.

Japanese Gen Xers had a fetish for English
