Do anyone else lose more and more respect for the Japanese the more they see just how shameless they were? These were the dweebs and femanons who made FF6 for instance, never put their original asian culture into their videogames. no sushi, no samurai, no boshida deities. It's always ripping off white people, european folklore and dungeons and dragons high fantasy. Even the RPG mechanics they implemented didn't begin with the Japanese, they were stolen from WESTERN developers from the 1980s. The Japanese are only capable of stealing. Their stuff has no originality and no soul.

And?
Every time Nips use other people’s ideas, they make it better
I don’t see why I should care about anything except the end product

Why didn't America make good games until the 6th gen then?

America makes video games? Surprised me, an American.

This is a very clear indicator that you have never actually played the games that you're accusing them of stealing from lmao.

Why is it a problem that they depicted their fantasy stories in a typical fantasy world? Western developers based their shit on Dungeons and Dragons because that was popular in the West. Likewise, Dungeons and Dragons was very popular in Japan at the time and Japanese developers did the same thing that Western developers did, so if you're going to accuse the Japanese devs of stealing than you also have to accuse the Western devs.

Eventually D&D fell out of favor and Sword World came in to replace it so Japanese games diverged a bit.

How dare the Romans appropriate Greek culture!

You are making my own point for me. The Roman empire fell due to invasions.

fast forward today and now japanese games have 0 western influence in them and it's all weeb shit to the max, wtf actually happened? Like in the 80s arcade games were filled with nothing but american movie references
>>
>OP is still having a shitfit because he found out the japs were under heavy western influence in the 80's and 90's
I look forward to OP having an autistic meltdown when he discovers how many horror legends are just copying Lon Chaney's mannerisms and work.

Keep crying no one knows shit about western games besides skyrim abd fallout 3 and even those have mods to appeal to japan audiences.

this is something that actually kinda makes me sad
you could see just how much of an impact we had on the Japanese back then, they loved Hollywood action and sci-fi films
then coincidentally, the decline of our film industry made it increasingly irrelevant to them
now anime is more isekai and romcom bullshit than anything else
we stopped being cool guy USA, and they suffered as a result

Before that, I must see what's going on in the west, and...
Nah, I still respect the japanese more.

No, because nobody with a brain gives a shit. This website was made by Americans copying Japs.

Is this supposed to be a joke? Breath of the Wild and Dragon's Dogma both completely borrow aesthetics and design principles from Western open world video games.

some of these are a bit disingenuous, but amusing, nonetheless
A Luger and a Nambu are absolutely NOTHING alike mechanically, and barely have any similarity besides being handguns with a similar grip angle
a few more are just sorta the superficial result most countries would reach when developing a technology
but yeah, Japanese companies very much wanted to catch up with the West, and the easiest way was to just copy them wholesale

The entirety of post-war Japanese culture is a copy of western one: Kaiju, Tokusatsu, Anime, Manga, Wrestling, J-Pop, Idols, etc. They had to replace ultranationalism and traditionalism that lead to fascism and war and this is what filled the vacuum. Post-war Japan is a distorted funhouse reflection of the west.
The ruins of an lost civilization, often war-torn, is a common recurring theme in Anime and Japanese games. It's a self-reflection. In a sense Japan ceased to exist.

FF6 doess have samurai and some Japanese-coded deities but I get what you are saying. Japs simultaneously lack self-respect and are narcissists, they are not as different from Chinks as weebs want to believe.
>>

Western media declined and s a result Japan list interest in it. American music, movies etc used to be popular in Japan, but that isn't the case today and hasn't been the case in years.

There's a ton of Japanese stuff in Japanese games but you guys lack the cultural awareness to recognize it. For example, you guys always glaze Zelda as being a European fantasy but the games are completely filled with Japanese stuff but it all goes over your head.

>but yeah, Japanese companies very much wanted to catch up with the West, and the easiest way was to just copy them wholesale

What's weird is how Japanese companies also tend to be extremely strict about copyright, like how Nintendo keeps going after ROM sites.

Not really though. Paganism isn't uniquely Japanese.

In the entire history of humanity, the loser copied the winner in an attempt to become a winner himself. When Matthew Perry forced the opening of Japan, japaneses started copying the west for everything: boats, canons, firearms, politics (became a colonizing nation/empire), clothes, ... after ww2, it doubled more, and usa enforced a more western constitution, forced the imperial family to drop its divinity status (most japaneses still believed that the emperor was truly a god). Japan had to recover and rebuild from ww2 while remaining a peaceful nation: they mastered soft power and started selling goods to the west but those goods must speak to the western people and thus japan industry from all fields adopted western "codes".

You also have to realize that japan was never under the dominion of one of the three great religions: judaism, christianism, and islam. Every time a missionary set foot on japan, he got his head cut. Because of that, their views on sex, justice, morals, ... (the infamous ten commandments to say it quickly) are different than rest the of the world. It's truly a nation that grew apart. Our culture with angels, churches, kings, knights, castle, wizards, elfs,... were very exotic to them and de-facto interesting and "cool" for the youth.

About jrpg: The father of the genre, Yuji Horii (dragon quest), always said that it is a combination of Ultima exploration mechanics (top view 2d map) with the battle mechanics of Wizardry (random encounter, separated screen, turn based). It was really a novelty back then.
