Found yet antoher faulty Snes with an interesting graphics issue ive never seen before and havent found on the internet.videohttps://youtu.be/I0sA4INJgVsdescription: games play fine, theres no logic errors playing, issues are only graphics, some garbage graphics, and floating suares that are supposed to be part of the sprite, also notice how in the Zangief part, his sprite is behind what are supposed to be the background graphics, the car and people in the back, layer priority is all fucked up.My Snes test cart failed a few months ago and i dont have a replacement yet, im just wondering if anyone has ever seen these issues and fixed them, im thinking its either PPU1 or the PPU1 VRAM, but i wont be swapping chips until i get another test cart
>>12541630thinking its not not vram.sprite breakup + random tiles + priority being wrong (zangief behind bg) = ppu1 issue, not memory.vram failures usually give you consistent garbage everywhere (tiles wrong but still structured). they dont usually flip layer priority or selectively break sprite assembly like that. either ppu1 is dying or you have a bus/solder issue feeding itbefore you start ripping chips:inspect ppu1 area for cracked joints / corrosiondont bother with vram first.
It is indeed a PPU problem and this usually happens with SHVC models because Nintendo were dumbasses and cheaped out on power liner filtering so the chips get damaged from voltage spikes.
>>12541630pretty sure that fence isn't even supposed to be on guile's stage, that's from zangief's stage
>>12541660ok i get it, i didnt see any obvious damaged traces on that side of the PCB but i will check the VRAM traces for continuity then,>>12541671yes it is indeed an SHVC, if im able to fix it i will add a 16v 470uf cap to the 7805 like i did with my other 5 Snes consoles, is this enough to at least diminish the spikes? or is there something else i could add.
>>12541671i can tell from the OP pic it's an SHVC because the graphics are sharp-looking. my own SNES is a GPM and those have soft, mushy video output.
>>12541734that should be ok i guess. in about 90% of cases where a SNES fucks itself it's an SHVC. the first revision of a console (and some home computers i can name too) is usually a lemon; the initial Famicom, PS1, and PS2 were also flaky.
>>12541728it is part of the stage at least on SF2 Turbo, i dont have the vanillla SF2 to se if that version doesnt have the fence. Also forgot to take a pic but on Vega's stage, the whole fence is in front of the character sprites, it looks like we are actually fighting inside a cage it actually looks better,
