Under depot/mgs2x/source, there's a sys.ini file that is pointing to a cdrom.img, but those lines seem to be commented out. I'm guessing it's supposed to point to the disc normally. In the same directory is the setup exe file for MGS2 Substance's Windows version which is not signed at all and so Windows Defender will cry about it. Oddly enough, trying to run the game makes it complain about a missing .ini file in the same directory as the game .exe's, even if it's put in the directory it's asking for.
One interesting note is the game config controls are clearly set for a JP keyboard, since the data is complete gibberish on an english computer.

It's the HD collection version. What a fascinating history of this game, as the development progressed from PS2 to Xbox to Windows to Xbox 360 to Vita in that order within a single code base.
Apparently the developers of the Vita port shut down at the start of this year, so either OP is a former employee or they went dumpster diving for workstations! :D

Took even longer to extract the files. Holy shit that is a lot of files. 15k textures in just one folder.
Seems to include a lot of audio, non-realtime cutscenes, codec stuff, and textures. No idea if everything's here or if any cut content is here, but you'll surely see fans scouring through this in the coming months.

Seeing it's the Vita version, I really doubt there would be any cut content left in the source code by then. Unless Konami really gave Bluepoint absolutely everything they had to port the game and then Bluepoint also gave Armature everything I just don't see it happening. There have been similar source code leaks for these ported versions of games and every single one I've seen is usually completely scrubbed clean of anything that would be unnecessary for the job. But who knows, 17gb is a lot for this game.

I really want MGS1 to be reverse engineered and receive an official pc port that is actually good. That way they could probably get it to run at 60fps like in OOT.

the input latency/lag of MGS1 is the main and really only reason it feels sluggish to play, if they improved that, it'd feel like MGS2. After that, program like a simple camera tweak where the second analogue lets you move the birds eye camera around to spot guards, that way you're looking less at the radar and more at the environment. MGS1 does NOT need a 3d camera, the one it has is great for the game, it'd just be nice to be able to slide it around a bit to reveal guards off screen, it'd significantly improve the flow of the gameplay
